I read a bunch about this. Russia state says 85% popularity for Putin. Independent polling says 65-70%. No matter what, Russians like the guy if only because he put a chicken in the pots and cars in the garages
im not sure either number is reliable. people cannot respond to those polls honestly due to the fear of doing so

except brave* people like the multi-colored hair girl

We can say that all day but all the data points to a healthy majority of individuals having an overall supportive view of Putin.
If you think that's not true but it is, it'll lead to bad policy...like our idiocy thinking sanctions will make the common Russians hate Putin. That didn't happen with other authoritarian leaders. If anything the leader will use the sanctions to consolidate the external enemy and further improve their domestic support.

its anecdotal, but ive been there. moscow is like new york city. people running around speaking english. a lot of foreigners there. and people dont even consider "moscuvites" to be russian

and even at a more remote location like chel4abinsk, where many kids cant spean english at all, they envied the western world and wanted to get out of russia

ultimately, it comes down to demograohics. millenials and below are aware for sure. gen-x is probably split. and boomers probably love putin

Both things might be possible. 60% could be primarily the older crowd and It will change with time.

Well Russia is an old country with a declining population, so it makes sense the Boomers have outsized influence.

But which Muslims?
Ok. For muslims I'd have to go with the muslims from chechnya that sided with Ukraine.

Kadyrov I respect for his mma presence and fighter stable I cant respect him and his dad being traitors to their own people

yeh. thats what i was lazily trying to say with the demographics line. just checked and

42% are 45 and above

Under 18 years~23.21%[7]
18–44 years~34.73%[7]
45–64 years26.55%[7]
65 and over15.6%[7]

so i still suspect we need to take a "fear" haircut from that polling number. but even a 15% haircut would suggest around half of russia supports putin

thats sad

but should i be surprised? way more than half of america supprt either biden or trump as opposed to realizing that the entire us political system is corrupt
