Sanctions is akin to declaring war against us
bullshit. he'll take it and keep puffing his chest. this is a nod that they are working some though. If it was war he'd already be responding as such. He's not and won't until he must.

Attempt to impose no-fly zone considered as direct participation in military activities
not bullshit. But Russia would try to avoid interaction but then would be forced to act if we did enforce it. Imagine a NATO jet shooting down a russian one. That's it we all out with two nuclear powers. It would get terrible real fast.

But we heard for so long about how Russia is a good friend. Very odd
The only time there was a window with Putin was post 9/11. They invaded Georgia (as the prelude to crimea and now) and we pulled out of the ABM treaty...and that was that. Never recovered and only worsened. I think it was probably only that joint fear of muslim terrorism gave cover for both USA and Russia to enact wars without international condemnation binding us together, so who knows if it would have lead to anything. But there is a few year window there that seemed possible that Russia could be integrated enough to provide non-war threats between each. Frenemies like so many other relationships between countries.

Jesus, I miss the Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev Nobel Prize era.
