Just read a long thread about how we found out that Russian general got killed that's being reported by investigative journalists. Apparently the Russians banned their guys from using cell phones and social media some time back. Russian troops were doing the same thing our troops do which is putting stuff out there that maybe doesn't look so good. And also is an operational security problem. Geotags and blah blah blah blah blah. So Russia develops their own secure cell phones for the military. They work over 3G and 4G. The problem is that part of Russia strategy going into Ukraine was to destroy the communication systems. So whenever the Russian general was dead, they needed to report it and their secure phones didn't work. So the person reporting it received permission to phone call a sensitive classified topic on regular line. And that is how it got leaked out. The Russians are calling on regular phone lines to talk about their dead generals.

To give an idea of where we are on this in the US, we would be using secure satellite communications anytime in the last 10 years-15 years. But if you did go back all the way to our invasion of Iraq, we did still have cell based communications But they used our own mobile cell stations to remain secure. It was actually one of our communication problems and that we rolled into Iraq taking everything out and we have our own mobile cell stations to put up. But we were bad at getting them out quickly. So for the first few months the war we had runners like world war II, driving back and forth to deliver secure messages. I'm not sure why the Russians don't have their own mobile cell stations to drop a communications network as they proceed.

If there's one thing we've learned in the last 2 weeks it's that the Russian military is still trapped on the 1940's.

Eh Bud, we all know Toyotas are a big part of conflicts around the world, eh.
This isn't the dumbest post in the thread, but it's in the top 3.

Banning Russian oil is going to be a double-edged sword for supporting Ukraine. It will hurt the Russians and dry up their fund. But when Western Europe and the United States start shooting the moon on gas prices. People will look out for themselves before they worry about kids getting bombed in Kiev

Banning Russian oil shouldn't have any impact on global supplies. What they supply can be made up by Canada and the U.S.

It won't be, but it could.
