Russian scientists demand to stop the disinformation campaign that biological weapons were allegedly being developed in Ukraine
Russian leading biologists signed an open letter demanding to stop false propaganda that biological weapons were allegedly created in Ukraine, calling the arguments of the Russian authorities "unreasonable fiction."
The letter was published on Facebook by a biologist from St. Petersburg Ekaterina Molotstova. Several leading Russian biologists, including virologist Evgeny Kunin, biologist Ekaterina Klementyeva and others, signed it.
"We demand to stop false, absolutely unfounded and hate statements about allegedly found evidence of biological weapons development in Ukrainian laboratories. We demand to publish a refutation of false information," the appeal says.
The letter was sent to the most propaganda media of the Russian Federation, which published groundless "evidence" of the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Igor Konashenkov that Ukraine allegedly created biological weapons.
"In this case, the "evidence" offered by the media is obviously false. Neither the presence of biological weapons developments nor even the use of particularly dangerous pathogens in laboratories follows from them. In the list of destroyed strains published by RIA Novosti and other Russian media, there is not one related to particularly dangerous. The list contains only strains common to microbiological and especially epidemiological laboratories. General Konashenkov's statement about the presence of strains of "plague, anthrax, tularemia, cholera" documented in the presented material is pure fiction. It should be noted that even the presence of such strains in a laboratory dealing with particularly dangerous infections would also not indicate the development of biological weapons by Ukraine. In addition, it should be noted that the completely wild idea of the existence of a special "DNA of the Slavs against whom special biological weapons were to be used", discussed by the Russian media, is a complete nonsense for everyone familiar with the school biology course. Such statements go back to the theories of German National Socialists with their cult of "Aryan highestrace," scientists wrote.
