La Paix @Dildo Swaggins one time building a substation the IBEW crew (Chemco) that was doing the industrial wiring threatened to walk off because the company doing the building wiring was nonunion so they couldn’t be qualified. oh boi did i put a stop to dat wif da quickness. i also made it a rule that no more than two workers at a time were allowed to secure a single six foot step ladder while it was in use. i’d catch lole 6 guys “holding the ladder” every day lol

it’s really not that hard, maybe i should take ur bro beneath mine wings and teach him how to properly berate and belittle everyone until you get the results you want
The workers are good it’s dealing with the hall with a bunch of issues that he hates.

We have a builder around here that has a "no ladders" policy. Not even 6' step ladders. Everything on job for all trades - interior and exterior - is scaffolding.

I assume it was safety/fall related, but maybe it's to eliminate ladder holders/spotters.

Yikes! Up at Kearl lake the safety officers are the worst. I’m sure you know if you’re feet are over 5’ or whatever you need fall pro. Well now we’re doing temp services all over site to expand living quarters which is outside and there are 10’ ground rods to be pounded into the ground and lots of pole work. Safety were completely stumped as to how guys are going to work within the rules of tie off with nothing above them. They seriously proposed to get AWPs and extend the baskets overhead and tie to those. After a day or two of grinding to a halt (we just got going and worked like normal people) they decided to round up all the less desirable jmen and make them ladder holders, no joke. For weeks on end me and others would be working away while another jman (getting equal pay of course) would spend 10-12 hours a day just holding our ladders. Mind blowing. The next step up the food chain was to be the lucky jman who would just follow the cable pull crew around the highline and pick up their Ty-wrap cut offs lol.

Nah.

I don't know the details so I won't apply my own union strike experiences to this story.

I do find it ironic that they mention inflation as why they need more money - which if they win it will cause more inflation. Haha.

the money is already allocated for the projects, funds are committed, union has us bent over and we deserve it

The new contract isn't only for existing projects. That will be the new labor number going forward. I think you know that.

Uber rich developers will take it in the ass to get existing projects completed on time, but after that? It isn't in their nature to say "Yeah, I have enough money. I'm good taking from my pie and giving it to the union workers."

So yeah...iNfLaTiOn

it’s still not affecting us as much as “muh supply chain” and what the union is asking for us fairly negligible, especially with our soaring profits. it’s absolutely not an inflationary level raise they are demanding. fight has bee. coming with them for years, these raises were deserved based on returns before covid. real estate doesn’t have much higher to go here unless we start paying people more and we know that. market is cooling rapidly and our shell companies are having trouble charging rents that are profitable or even to break even. You love to see it.

Like I said earlier, I hadn't read into the specifics. If they deserve it, good for them.

Canadians are so nice you shouldn't even need a union. Must be American developers up there. Or Trump.

idk man everything sucks. inflation isn’t going away, it’s just getting statutes. so if we don’t increase the average person’s earnings what can we do to restore their purchasing power?

I live in a gated neighborhood with a guard at entry. SongExotic2 @SongExotic2 always wanted to know why I own all these guns. These plebs will take my nanny from my cold dead hands.
It starts with the nanny and then what? I'm making my own hors d'oeuvres for dinner parties?

Why can't they all just be content renting in a corporately controlled artificially inflated market the way they are so happy getting their health care from the manipulated same market? Sheesh

You don't need guns, just get a screwdriver.

No there are legitimate supply and demand imbalances but there’s also a lot of opportunistic price gouging going on. You’re fooling yourself if you think otherwise.
Target taking a $24 billion cap hit due to margin erosion. They didn't raise their prices fast enough to cover inflationary expenses.
