General 2023 MLB Thread

The Yankees, Mets, Cubs, and obviously the Dodgers have already publicly stated they are not interested in Trevor Bauer. As long as he doesn't go to Tampa or Toronto, I'm okay with that.

He’s going to the Red Sox according to my sources

Nice.
I'm on auto-renew.

I've had it for a few years. Love it. If you gamble or do Draft Kings/Fan Duel at all, it's a must.
I bounce back and fourth between single team and full subscription from year to year, so I don't do auto renew. AFAIK, there isn't a discount to do it, so I don't really see the benefit.

There isn't a discount. I'm just lazy.

It’s spring training time

I know they struggle, but the pirates are right down the road

The GOAT team is down about an hour and a half away in Ft Meyers

You guys watching any preseason games? This pitch clock thing is a game changer. Literally. Games are getting done in under 2-1/2 hours.

Gone are the days of the pitcher wandering around behind the mound for a solid minute before pitches.

And gone are the days of the batter taking 30 seconds to adjust his cup after every pitch.

The game is much, much quicker. An easier watch for sure.

Walk off HR today for the Yankees against the Nationals.

I might get tickets for the Yankees @ Reds series.

$267 million vs $70 million

I saw this yesterday...

They also outlawed the shift. Which irritates me a little but I get it. Offensively, teams should have been able to force the shift to stop by bunting. Or just hitting the other way - which I know is harder. But everyone took the stubborn approach and tried to hit through the shift. The result was bad offense.

New rule is 2 infielders on either side of 2nd base with both feet in the dirt before the pitch is released.

With the pitch clock AND defensive restrictions, we should get faster games with more balls in play.

Reading through more of the rule changes being introduced in 2023.

This one is BIG. And I don't know that it's getting a lot of attention.

Pitchers are only allowed two "disengagements" per batter. A "disengagement" is a step off of the rubber or a pickoff attempt. A third violation is a balk.

So with a man on base, you are basically limiting a pitcher to one pickoff attempt per batter. If he does it a second time, the runner knows it's a free bag during that plate appearance. He can literally walk to the next base and there isn't shit the pitcher can do about it. If he steps off, the runner is awarded the bag. If he attempts a pick off, the runner is awarded the bag. So the 2 disengagement limit is really a 1 disengagement limit per plate appearance.

Combine all this with the larger bases, which make the distance between the bags shorter - and I would think we're looking at a significant increase in steals.

Had a layover in Minnesota yesterday and I was grabbing a beer. This dude comes up and starts asking me what I thought the Bears were going to do for the draft. I gave him a quick rundown on their roster and I asked him if he was from Chcago.

"No. I'm a Buccaneers fan"

I asked him why he asked me about the Bears and he pointed to my ball cap.

I was wearing a Reds hat. I mean...I guess....

He said he felt like an idiot. Then he said "For not being a fan, you had a lot of info on the Bears, bruh"

I think they are going to try to draft Trout.
