Late 80's/early 90's we saw the scene blow up in the PNW and soon the entire world knew these people. Lots of great bands like Nirvana, AIC, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Green River, Soundgarden, STP.... so my question is who was the single most talented musician to come out of that particlar scene specifically form the PNW?

I know who gets me vote, but I wanna see what you guys think!

STP was San Diego.

Also Gruntruck, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone etc.
Before that Queensryche....Heart....Jimi Hendrix.....

I guess most will say Dave Grohl, but Chris Cornell is one of the greatest wailers I've ever heard.

Dave for sure if we're going on pure talent as the thread states. Chris had the highest talent peak in one area with that voice' but Dave has literally been a one man band, a member of a cornerstone band from Seattle in the 90s during the grunge explosion, and still putting out chart topping music this long after initially finding fame.

I like Jerry Cantrell. Most talented? I don’t know, but he’s my pick anyway. Maybe because he’s the only one I’ve ever seen live.

whoops. I didn’t see the 80’s 90’s window. You are right.

Dean De Leo was unique. McCreedy, Stone, Jerry Cantrell, Kim Thaylil. They all had different unique giftings. Hard to single one out.

You could throw Jack Endino as a guitarist who later did sound Engineering for Sub Pop and mixed for a lot of these groups. His ear influenced a lot of the music in the grunge era.

I have to go with grohl just because of his longevity and his body of work.

I always lean to Jerry Cantrell. His song writing, guitar playing, and vocals all hit all the time. I hoinestly thing AIC was the most talent band of that time period. Even thgouh Nirvana was my fav band. Maybe the simplicity of Kurts musc and playing was easier to sit down and immitate.

Grohl is just an incredible musician. But honestly he hasnt done anything the last 20 years that didnt seem like a repeat of something he had alerady wrote. I do love the guy though.

I knew it was either Grohl or Cantrell.
I once worked with a guy a little over 20 years ago who wore a Jerry Cantrell hardhat.

80's & 90's were essentially "Murica fuck yeah, even with the gulf war.
Hell I had Desert Shield & Desert Storm trading cards.
Entertainment hit its peak, "BBQ's & ballgames" with a somewhat invincible feeling.

Dave Grohl wasn't really from Seattle.
Even though he hooked up with nirvana he was from the coast. I can see an argument either way but not sure if he counts .

Dave was like from the eastern U.S., not from either coast.
But that's really not the question as rock stars are often like franchise athletes.
Kurt was from ,Aberdeen so good enough.
Most others were basically from Seattle area, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Layne, Cornell, Thayil, Andrew Wood, Ben Shepard, Matt Cameron, etc.
Eddie Vedder was basically from San Diego, not sure about the Candlebox crew.
