Without a city breakdown included with general state numbers doesnt tell the whole story. But, unsurprisingly it all reflects demographics. Re: Alaska, I've never been more searched and checked for a gun than at a bar in Anchorage.

Weird that the west & east coast states are all lower than Montana. Doesn't actually seem possible so I gotta figure they just aren't charging like they should be. I expect violent crime to exist here, folks around here tend to take matters into their own hands and most of our judges aren't liberal activists, but those #s don't add up.

Also consider that the entire state of Montana has roughly 29% of the population of just Los Angeles by itself (1.1 million for Montana vs 3.8 million for LA), so it wouldn't be that difficult for the numbers to get statistically skewed...especially when you consider most of central & northern CA is pretty safe compared to southern, which skews the numbers even more.

I mean, it's wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt, but the violent crime rate in 2022 (graph above is 2020) for just Los Angeles is 801.5.

I thought Alaska was in the northwest?
It appears to look like it’s Mexico ?
Am I wrong ?

Per capital data skews incorrectly in places with small populations

It's per capita.. And no it doesn't skew anything... Per capita is the correct measure.. It doesn't skew either way Buuuut there's more variance in smaller population so you need to look at more than one year.

Regardless.. These numbers are pretty indicative of demographics as already mentioned.. Blacks and natives (including Hispanic natives) make up the vast majority of criminals.

It's called the "small sample size effect". It's why Liechtenstein has a per capita murder rate of 0 or is among the highest in Europe from one year to the next.

Oh, so it does skew it.

I'd like to see South Carolina's index without Myrtle Beach's tourist influx crime added. I'm fairly certain that's the largest contributor to their poor rating.

You don't even know what a sample is... Or what you're reading lol.

Let me give you a hint.. A statistic based off the ENTIRE population is NOT a sample. Haha. Or even if you want to call it a sample.. It's a full sample.... Lol it can't be too small or too large... It's a 100% representation of the population.

Violent crime rates are not samples.. They're taken by grabbing raw number or crimes across entire population and dividing by population.

A sample would go out and gather data on a subset of the population and then use that to infer against the total population.

This has nothing to do with what is going on in this thread.

It's ok. Like I said this is just annoying to even have this conversation with you.
