We used the same butcher block at the cabin, I thought I had taken a picture of the backsplash we did but can't find it, we basically just ripped down a piece of butcher block and ran it through the planer. Stained it the same color. Looks pretty sweet. I'll get a picture next time I go out.

Pic looks like you stained it after install?

I've never done this before but will be next week.
In my dumb head, it seems like fully staining and poly coating the countertop first before installing would make more sense, no? Just gotta mount & caulk it (BEEP).
Tell me what to do here..

Also thinking that mounting the backsplash (butcher strip like you did, looks good) with pocket screws before stain and seal.
Bad idea?

I've never replaced a countertop or cut a sink hole, all advice appreciated. Doesn't seem like rocket surgery but I don't want to wreck a $300 chunk of wood, either during installation or water damage over time.

We stained after install, wife wasn't sure what stain she wanted to go with. Either way is fine. Pocket screws would be a good idea. Don't over think cutting, just lay out the template that comes with the sink where you want the hole, hit it with a 3/4 inch auger bit at each corner. I would use a circular saw for the straight cuts due to thickness and use a jigsaw to hit the corners so you aren't burning through jigsaw blades.

What'd you use for a sealer?
Any funk issues on the underside?

I had to buy a new refrigerator a few years back and I remember Frigidaire kept coming up as a good brand. It was just a medium sized fridge with zero features, didnt even make ice, and it was pretty cheap. This is all pretty vague and not helpful, I realize this. I think as long as you are buying a basic unit from a reputable company youre probably fine.

One place I found recently looking for stainless cookware was this site: Reach In Refrigerators

Thats the section where they sell refrigerators. They look pretty beefy and are obviously meant for commercial kitchens.
I have recently asked this question to a bunch of people and the only people that I listen to. Are people with nice houses who have had nice houses for more than twenty years. Their response is upper mid range. They say the expensive ones break just as often as the mid-range. But they're more expensive to fix.

I'm leaning that way currently.
I like the esthetics of some other brands, but they're all more expensive, less features, and I've never heard of them.
I have had Frigidaire stuff before and it does last and hold up to neglect and abuse.

I didn't think I'd be burning so many calories on appliances, lol. Everything has something I like but none have everything. And I kinda want all the same brand so everything matches for some reason. I've seen kitchens with 3 different "shades" of stainless and it doesn't look good, looks slapped together.

Close on the place tomorrow so decision time is at hand.
Uggh.

Will you still be keeping 300lbs of game, seasonally?
Hopefully! A couple of my old neighbors assured me I still have lifetime access to cross their property and hunt the FS land there, its elk city cause its very hard to legally get into. Will have to buy another freezer though, left it with the other appliances at my old house.
And I need to build a garage to put it in. Really hoping i can pull that off this summer.

This is the kitchen I'm starting with
1000000463.jpg
Laminate flooring and battleship grey paint "new" through the whole house.
Small kitchen with one window is dark enough, so I'm going to paint it all white except maybe the wall my back is to, to tie it to the living room.

Was hoping to be able to use the cabinets but they are too gnarly and beat. So I'll start ripping everything in that picture out but the window starting sunday. That range doesn't work and was supposed to be gone but its my problem to deal with now.

Living room

Its kind of a shitbox, it's tiny as hell.
It will be nice when I'm done.

I got to an estate sale right after it opened and they had a 6 foot Stainless super heavy duty piece of a Commercial Kitchen counter. Somebody had already called dibs on it, price was 75 bucks. I really wish I would have grabbed it.

Why do you want white walls? Didn't you learn from poo pants incident?
Kitchens shouldn't be dark. It'll feel bigger with grandma white walls & ceiling.

Obviously replacing that light fixture.

I'm gonna lose counterspace with my plan but it's just so tiny in there anyway.
Between stove and sink will be the dishwasher. Other side of sink will be the fridge.
Part of how I'm justifying buying new cabinets, I only have to buy a few, lol.

Sonofa bitch!
I know
It is like 3 houses down from me as well, if anybody could have been there first it...

All I got was a Nic Cage DVD and some cool pieces of fabric and a wool blanket for the truck, the lady grabbed a book on hitler and a couple stainless steel bowls.
