Where'd Stillmatic @Stillmatic go? We need to ridicule him until he buys a kayak.

Side note. Anyone ever run a trout line?
A few years ago I found a trotline hooked up at a pond I frequent. I know the owner and made sure they weren't his before cutting them down. They are illegal here, and left unattended they are pretty irresponsible.

Based on the depth and the bait, I think the guy was going for catfish.

Interesting. If I did it I'd leave them out only while I was out there and bring em in after. I figure that'd be the quickest way to get some trash fish for fert

Just looked it up, trot lines are legal where I'm at and what I'm doing

Yeah, they are effective. My buddy pulled one out last year where a half eaten catfish was on it. He guessed the catfish got hooked and either wore itself out trying to get away or was there long enough that it died because it couldn't get anymore food. Eventually a snapping turtle started nibbling on him. Just a bad way to die - fish or not.

I don't have a problem with them if they are attended to, but I'd sooner just use a fishing rod and - if I intended to kill the fish - a quick blade through the skull.

Yea, these will be tended to for while we are out. Not going to leave them out.
