I'm sorry I didn't read the thread, but my opinion of socialism as I understand it is "good will" programs regulated and allocated by government.
Communism and socialism sound great to me, in theory.
Except that it seems to actually achieve the opposite result, in eliminating the spirit of the individual.
The general idea of the thread was that if other countries can provide "free" healthcare and education with similar tax rates, why don't Americans want the same.

General consensus was that they would but it's not apples with apples.

Can we stop using the word free when describing socialist programs?
No!

You're right, the money must come from somewhere, which is why I put it in quotation marks. But assuming everything is equal, if one economy charges for a service and the other doesn't, it is comparatively free.

Nope, it's still not free, someone earned that money and was forced to pay for it, Def not free in any sense of the word free

Wealth should be capped. No one individual should have the ability to influence politics and dictate wars like they do. Who the fuck needs tens of billions of £?

OK, what terminology would you prefer? Tax funded?
I think publicly funded or tax funded works, it's just so far from free, that "free" doesn't accuratly describe any thing about it.

No one, but I'll take hundreds of billions of $

I think it's kind of arrogant to tell people what they do or don't need. Oh what they can or can not have.

How is that arrogant?
Well just because you can't see a reason why someone may want a load of money, doesn't mean they need to justify it. Maybe they want to swim in cash like Scrooge McDuck

Sitting on wealth like that is weird. It's no longer about quality of life, it's about power. You're hoarding currency for fuck knows what reason. The whole monetary system is hilarious anyway. I'd love to speak to one of those Mr. Burns looking Jewish banker guys on their death bed and ask them what's the plan?

Because you feel you know what's best for everyone and how much of something they can have.
If I was telling someone I don't think you NEED access to affordable basic healthcare I feel that would be arrogant. But saying someone doesn't need their 48th Billion? Nah.

So because it's weird to you people shouldn't be able to do it? Fuck if that's how the world works we wouldn't have mma, butt sex, etc.
And I don't see how setting up your family for continued wealth and prosperity for generations to come is weird? Granted that's only one of many possible reasons.

There is affordable healthcare, I have affordable healthcare because I made good choices and have a good job. Others can do the same without handouts from everyone else.

When it's at the expense of millions of others wellbeing then I don't think it should be allowed. Not to mention, I would almost guarantee the wealth has been obtained via criminal means.

I don't think everyone is in the same boat, especially in the US

For the record, I believe in a free market. Peter Schiff on the JRE was on the money.

Only works if you get rid of 99% of Government.

Anything to base this off of besides a dislike for people with more money that you?
I feel like you think I'm taking about millionaires. Im taking Saudi Prince slave drivers. Russian Oligarchs. Not Bob Smith down the road with a Porsche.
