I know bro.

That's why I made up that lie.

Just kidding.

.450 for hogs? What, 45-70 didn't want any of that?

We're chartering into AR-10 waters there. I wanted to stick to an AR-15 in order to swap out uppers for deer and home defense. The .458 SOCOM crossed my mind as a good hog thrasher after reading an article on it.

I'm just giving you the gears. I think just about any caliber has its merits, and I'm particularly fond of stuff a little more obscure (300blk, 458 socom, 450 bushmaster) most of them are pretty redundant though. A semi auto .308 would be just as effective, and much easier to find ammo for. Hell a lever gun in 30-30 would fit the bill for what you want. There simply isn't anything more fun than a lever gun, lol.

Lever gun would be amazing haha. I've had traditional rifles my entire life, so thought building something unique would spark up some good conversations around a camp fire.

Come to think of it, my lever in .243 would fit the bill pretty well too. Man, I should have brought that to the range yesterday. I love that thing.

I've used my brother's old .243 on a hunt and had to double tap one. With the .270, .30-06, and .243 it's like your shot placement has to be absolutely perfect. I'm of the spine shot variety and go for a shot midway between the ear and shoulder. I found that if the hog moved or if my shot was a little off, my .270 would sometimes just wound it and we'd be tracking.

Why not just aim for the bigger target?

Meat. My dad raised me to take the harder shots in order to conserve as much meat as possible. Every doe I have ever shot was a head shot and bucks were through the neck, unless they were trophy size. When he took me on my first hog hunt, he showed me where to hit them and it's where I've been aiming ever since lol

Edit*** Unless we're talking the long shots out passed 150yds, then it's the big target and just have to sacrifice some of that delicious venison or pork.

You're not damaging much (if any) meat if you hit it in the vitals. Mmmmm bacon.

I forgot how low their hearts were compared to deer, but yea...I see what you mean and you can see from that cut-away where I'm talking about when I aim.

The only wild hogs we have in Ohio are the ones that shop at Walmart.

Here's my Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in .45/70 Govt (hands down favorite gun I've ever owned...and I've had a shit ton.) and my Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC (my hiking and hunting back up)

I hand load all the ammo for these two, I run 405gr fp lead at about 1600 fps 90% of the time, I'll run it up to 1900-2000fps for shits and giggles but it becomes un-fun to shoot at that point and an ineffective speed for lead out of this gun. More isn't always better.

In the Ruger I generally run 255gr fp lead at about 1450fps for at and above 44mag #'s

I run a Montana sling on the lever gun. And carry the Blackhawk in a custom made Mernickle rig.

This is my everyday go to...if you see me, these are always at hand. Kahr CT9 9mm. It's a single stack with a slim profile, so easy to conceal and I'm still getting the benefit of a 4" barrel. I've carried everything from a Sig 220 on down to a NAA 22mag., and for me this is a perfect compromise. I've always been a big bore guy. I have probably thrown at least 50,000 230 gr. .45acp rounds downrange but I've really fell in love with the 9mm for concealed carry. This past year I transitioned to the Kahr from a HK VP9. I shoot the Kahr as good or better to 20 yds...and it's night and day for ease of carry. I carry in a Desantis Iwb rig, with a versacarry mag carrier, and my 4" Cold Steel Voyager is always in my pocket...imo the absolute toughest/baddest $30 folder available.

I run 124 Gr. +P Federal Hydra-Shok as my carry round. Probably going to transition to bonded ammo at some point...but I have a bunch of old stock Hydra-shok I've hoarded for the last decade :D The price on the 20 rd. boxes is $7.25...miss those days.

I've got a few more, but we ain't going to be posting those

I'm good with what I have, don't plan on buying anything else..........well, except if I find a great deal on a 10mm 1911. o_O

Please stop shooting deer in the neck. That's an asshole thing to do. If you're going to kill an animal for food, kill it as quickly as possible. Aim for the vitals.

Huh? A neck shot drops them instantly. The only deer we've ever had to track was when I was younger and shooting behind the shoulder.

Just picked up CZ 75 sp01, i love it! Haven't customized anything yet cuz it shoots pretty awesome! Sold my springfield xdm, i like to own one gun at a time and master it. If i need to pick up a bug out gun, probably try to find the Phantom with the polymer frame, but i live in Cali and that one is not on the roster.
Rifles, i'll buy soon. I'm looking more into 7.62x39 caliber cuz of the cheap price of that caliber. Shot plenty of 5.56 and its alright, but bit pricy and probably have to expand shit load of ammo for hunting purpose. So my choices are probably an AK with tech sights or ghost sights. 5.56 def has more range / accuracy but if u do need to ambush someone, realistically u'll set up within 150 or less distance and thats the effective range for 7.62x39.
And thats all i need, 1 main gun and 1 side arm.
I have a CZ P-06, similar to yours but in .40. That's my favorite/nicest pistol. Big fan of CZ, they're great firearms. But hardly anyone I know has one.
