Conor definitely can change his approach and I absolutely believe he will make some adjustments coming into the rematch with Nate and is too smart to believe himself the bullshit he spits out about "I was winning until I lost";

however, a fighter can only change so much without coming up short on the other end. each stance has its pro and cons. Conor's wide stance is optimal for the kicks he likes to use and for boxing which is his bread and butter. he only is such a great KO artist because he throws his punches with such bad intent, which is optimal from his stance and not from others.

from the same link from above, about the Boxing/MMA stance:

"Good attacking stance from a boxer’s point of view (...) the (rear) hand has tremendous power due to the extra rotation of the torso" "Very mobile stance with quick movements in all directions"

Yeah but you're arguing a point I never made. I never said that Conor's stance was ideal for throwing the hardest leg kicks - obviously a more traditional muay thai/kickboxing stance is going to yield a harder leg kick than the hybrid karate-style Conor uses.

What you said was that Conor's stance eliminated his ability to throw leg kicks, and that simply isn't true (as he proved by throwing several hard leg kicks in their fight). Are they as hard as the one's RDA hit Diaz with? No, but they're solid and they will take their toll.

And again, he can change his stance and balance to throw a leg kick in a fraction of a second, and switch back to his normal stance. In the first fight, you can see all the energy he just pissed away by throwing wild and going for spinning back kicks. If he makes his energy work for him - putting money in the bank with a solid leg and body attack - he will win the rematch IMHO

I'm arguing the point that Conor can be effective using a leg kick heavy approach. I really don't remember the several leg kicks you say he threw in the first fight. not arguing he didn't, I just don't remember and I haven't factored in that he can even use that weapon. all I remember is him sitting in the pocket winging massive straight lefts and uppercuts.

"he can change his stance and balance to throw a leg kick in a fraction of a second, and switch back to his normal stance" - that's not really practical. ideally you want to use every tool available and make minor adjustments in your stance even mid fight but you can't have it both ways. the time that takes to change your stance from a wide stance to one that allows throwing a good leg kick is the time when you telegraph the kick.

Nate is so vulnerable to low kicks though, Conor maybe could pull it off but I don't think that plays into his style at all.
