I made this thread previously on another forum but I have a feeling my threads might disappear. So it is reposted here :)

------------------------------------------
Lets take some powers as given. He can walk in stars, smash planets and lift the midgard serpent. He can fire lightning without his hammer - he was the God of Thunder before he earned Mjolnir and demonstrated as much when he fought Gorr. He can do some rudimentary magic, like teleport and see/hear things at a mystical level (eg prayer).

However, I'm going to show why Thor has to be underpowered to make interesting stories, similar to Superman. It's ridiculous that he gets matched against guys like Hulk and Juggernaut. His powerset exceeds them by far.

Flight

Thor can fly without Mjolnir. He has done so a few times. Why does he use his hammer then? Well I can walk but I prefer to ride my bicycle.

Here is a pic demonstrating his ability to fly.

And here he is, effortlessly resisting the gravity of the sun.

WTF is going on over there Leigh @Leigh ? Why would they be deleting comic book threads? Seems like pretty innocent shit to me lol.

Super Speed

Thor has super speed AND super reactions. We know he can move faster than light, it's been demonstrated when he swung his hammer at twice the speed of light. Moving at superspeed is not really a question. However, he can also react to super speed. He managed to catch Quicksilver, who is fast enough to dodge lightning - he dodged the first blast, so Thor stepped it up and tagged him.

And here he does a speedster-esque task at super speed

Plus some more random super speed pics:

Grabs hold of a speeding Hermes. Twice

I'm not posting there at all any more but people have had threads deleted and been frozen for seemingly doing nothing wrong. Just thought this thread would be nice to have here, instead :)

In just that one forum, or everywhere? Either way, seems stupid as hell. Why would they do that? Has anyone offered ANY explanation?

I don't know, nor do I really care at this point. One guy in particular is being a dickhead and he may delete my stuff out of spite. I'm outta there

Good stuff Leigh. Thanks again for the info and pointing me this way. Should be a fun ride. This place makes the old playground look primitive in terms of technology lol.

Welcome to 2015! :) Splinty and I were talking about this recently. After being here for 12 weeks, going there is like going back to the 1950's. It's crazy how dated their technology is, but I guess you don't realize it until you experience something different. What I find amusing is, there are thousands of people over there that still think it's the best lol. They have no fucking clue.

I love Thor but he suffers nowadays from what all the heroes suffer from: ridiculous power levels

When I was a kid no hero was crazy powerful like that and it made for really good stories. Now everyone is just absurdly over-powered. I went on about Wolverine on another thread about this. He used to get drunk and be able to die from getting his throat slit when I was young and now you can turn him into bones and he regenerates.

Totally stupid.

If there are no consequences there will be no tension.

Superman wasn't ridiculous when you were a kid?

At least Thor is supposed to be a god. He was brought in specifically to be an overpowered plot device for Hulk.

I don't see the appeal.

Nope. Superman was so not at the levels he is today that when the movie came out and he flew around the world and time went backwards everyone thought it was totally ridiculous. Now it is par for the course. During the 80's he started getting way too powerful and so they went the Doomsday route to show that he can still be beaten by someone. But SM definitely was the first to go way over the top. I think the Hulk was next. In the 70's and 80's heroes and villains were no where near this powerful except for a handful of cosmic being whose whole point was to be nearly omnipotent. Even the Silver Surfer would get KO'd in the Defenders all the time in the 70's.

I think you've got your periods mixed up. Silver Age superman was literally sneezing out solar systems. He was depowered in the late 80s/early 90s to make story telling easier.
