Not the way one of the best fighter should lose his strap, but it was the right decision by Zuffa.

Champions should have some integrity.
Noone should be running red lights and hitting other cars, then fleeing from the scene, not just champions. UFC made the right decision here, what Jones did is inexcusable. Lets hope he hires a driver or something, since that dude and automobiles don't mix.

Thats good they did that. They were becoming enablers. Jones kept messing up knowing the UFC high powered lawyers would bail him out and that he would simply fight again make more money and buy more drugs.

The suspension should be a few years... if it just a few months thats the normal wait around time for fighters for their next match.
Honestly, I care more about watching JJ fight, than having him "punished" by the UFC. He should be punished by the law, and after he has fulfilled his sentence, should be back in the Octagon.

There are many fighters that have done far worse things outside the ring. If they are cleared to be outside of jail, they should be allowed to make a living.

It's obviously something which needed to happen for Jones fix his journey. When you receive zero repercussions and become untouchable, the motivation to change your life course isn't there. I think Jones will be back in 12 months and he'll be an even bigger fucking beast.

Cormier now has a 2nd try at gold and he needs to make it count because the chances of a 3rd try would be slim unless he gets fucked by the judges.

I feel this is a turning point towards a higher expected standard of professionalism among both athletes & Zuffa. Jones will be back stronger than ever and the light-heavyweight division became even more interesting.

Very pleasantly surprised. He just can't think he can do anything and there won't be consequences.

He will just win it back at MSG in December.
Yes i can see the PR story being built around this. Jon Jones makes a come back in his real life then makes a come back in the cage, but i seriously doubt he will clean himself up in RL, plus what if its the drugs that are making him fight s good as he does? Either way im sure the UFC PR train is working hard to create this image of him starting the come back road. Either way congrats to dana and the ufc for finally finding the balls they never knew they had.

Can I ask why everyone is saying this is drug related? As far as I know, there were no drugs or alcohol involved in this situation.

That was initially reported, but proven false by the fact that the police had no contact with Jones until much later.

I'm really surprised he was stripped. It was the right thing to do though. He has to have consequences. It will be interesting to see how long he has to sit out before he comes back. I wonder if he will immediately get to take his belt back from DC or if he will have to fight Rumble first. I really hope Jones gets his shit together before he throws his whole future down the toilet.

I really don't know how i feel about stripping his belt, i'm probably the only one here.
He earned that belt by what he did in the cage, and not by what he did outside of it.
There has to be a punishment and this one seemed to be the only one he might learn something from.
I hate seeing a champ losing the belt like this, would have rather seen rumble k.o.ing him in to bolivia.

We'll get alot of " not the real champ" talk for who ever wins it.

While I applaud UFC for stepping up and making an example out of the fighter who is, arguably, THE face of the promotion, at the same time, I truly hope Jones gets the help he so, obviously, needs. In this day and age of 24-7-365 media hype and frenzy, never-ending social media contact and disposable celebrities, sometimes the humanity gets overlooked. Jones is a supremely talented athlete, who has lived a charmed existence, until recently. There are numerous examples of similar individuals, entertainers, athletes, etc., who have experienced blinding success at an early age, becoming of a mindset that they are "above it all (the law included)." Very few have come back from a brush with disaster to regain their former brilliance, especially, under the constant scrutiny available in today's world. Even if Jon Jones never steps foot in the octagon again, I hope he gets his life together, accepts his failures, doesn't blame anything other than himself, and acquires a real-world sense of who he is and what he has been given. Admittedly, it's a longshot, but I'm rooting for him!

I struggled with whether or not I agreed with him being stripped for the same reason you said. He earned the belt, he should have to be beat to lose it. However, other fighters have been cut from the ufc for things that happen outside the cage. The ufc would not send a good message if the champ didn't have consequences too. If you suspend him for a year, but don't strip him then the whole division would be stuck in limbo. I agree, there will be talk of "not the real champ". In fact, I'll be one of the people saying it. It was a no win situation for the ufc. I think taking the title away was the only optic they had. They can't let fighters think are are untouchable once they become champ. AJ is the one getting shafted. He should've had the chance to fight and get the belt legitimately instead of fighting for a vacated championship.
