the idgaf option doesn't do this poll a lot of good. That means they don't care about political subjects in off topic? Should have been yes or no. Those that care enough wil vote. Those that don't shouldn't.

The main forum as in MMA is separated from everything else, that is why people primarily come to this site. MMA.

Off-topic should be clear enough that if you click on it, that was your choice. Political thread title bothers you? Welcome to the internet. Now that you've found it, advice: you don't have to click on it. I know, it is an amazing feature.

But wait Mr Yossarian @Yossarian that makes far too much sense

On this site, it's sort of irrelevant since I watch forums. I don't peruse forums per se

But one reason I left a different place was because the forum members are predominantly one side. The threads were toxic, and they clogged up the non mma forum

I recommended that they create a sub forum and they said no, so I left site

So for people who peruse the forums instead of watching them, I think this sub form makes sense.
adding more deets. even for someone who "watches" forums, i think the sub-forum is beneficial. right now, for example, im all in. im curious what people on both sides of the aisle are thinking. but i could see myself going through periods where i unwatch the political forum bc id rather put up blinders to that stuff

here's a ridiculous story. i actually thought about emailing yall to delete my account after joining a couple political threads a day or two ago. it had nothing to do with what people were saying. im just a pyscho. i fully admit that. in short, acknowledging modern politics made me feel incredibly dirty, and the thought of seeing political threads disgusted me. made me want to crawl under a rock. LOL

so if there are any other pyschos out there, like myself, its kind of cool to be able to unwatch that forum if need be

but... from the perspective of a sane, normal adult... the sub-forum isnt as crucial here as it is other places for 3 reasons: the members here are split across party lines, so there is no bullying. the culture is generally awesome, which allows for people to express opinions on both sides. and the mods do a great job of dumping threads that become dumb.

so i vote YES, but im cool with it either way

I prefer it. The issue with the "If you don't like it don't click" idea is that literally anything can be turned into a religion or politics thread.

Which will happen with or without the sub forum, don't you think?

And the sub forum is offending some great posters. And even though it is unintended, I feel the administrators here are beyond compare and will work something out.

I think the colored tags should be enough to appease the ones who wanted separation of some sort. Compromise for both sides.

and at that point it's up to a moderator to say "Hey, knock that shit off" to the offender OR move the thread. There are no perfect rules, but the current direction of the Off Topic is going to leave us with every thread turning into a political pissing contest.

When I first joined this site a year and a half ago I remember talking to Wild @Wild and recommending that the easiest way to keep things civil is to outright ban political threads. If you want to talk politics there are actual forums for that. In fairness to them, they wanted to offer people the freedom (which I both respect and appreciate) but I also think separating politics from everything else is a wise decision.

I think it's just a phase.....with the election and new president and all. It will calm down. Hopefully. Surely. Maybe. Lol

I hope you're right, but really don't think it will. The left is really, really digging in their heels and going all in on him being the anti-christ and needing to be usurped.

I'm perfectly willing to ignore/skip what I may find offensive (without harm to me) to allow people with other views to feel free to say what they want and be comfortable here.

I can function with the red tag to guide me. It's a great idea actually. And if shit goes down in a normal thread, maybe a mod could then tag it red. Make it a "hot topic" , no pun intended.

As a matter of fact, you could add a brown tag for this thread is evolving into shit as we speak. Lol.

This is somewhat contradicitng. You agree that threads can go from non-political intent, to full on hardcore poltics. That thread should then be moved? censored? locked? Not very practical.

No

If you don't like a thread then fuck off and don't click it.

The new forum has just basically created a hiding place for a bunch of threads I might have been interested in, but will likely not see because I click OT
Bingo. The less sub forums the fewer places I have to forget aboit checking.

Yeah these days people you don't agree with, they are anti-social. I am glad we have a safe space now.

'Society' = social/all inclusive topics.
'Anti-Social' = divisive/ not inclusive i.e. Political & Religious topics.

So it's a good thing to have separate???

Or the moving of it is in itself divisive?
