So if one of us disagrees with or takes offense to something that you post it's cool if we doxx you?Freedom of speech does not guarantee anonymity. No one is suggesting this man should be locked up. I really have no problem with his CNN meme, I don't know why you think I do. I believe you are conflating two issues, freedom of speech and the right to privacy.
The issue here seems to be that this man highlighted himself by claiming responsibility for the original meme, but a cursory look through his posting history revealed some vile posts, even one meme specificly targeting CNN and Jews that work there. At that point, do you believe he has an unalienable right to privacy, despite posting things which infringe upon other's liberty?
My first thought is that they should save the dirt they're evidently already busy digging up on this kid for trial because I don't think this will remain restricted to the court of public opinion for too long. They should forget about winning over the public on this one, that horse has left the barn I'm afraid. It is funny though how fast they rediscover their investigative skills as soon as their own necks are on the line. It's a shame we didn't see some of this during the recent sarin gas fugazi and subsequent bombing of the Syrian airfield?I've had a think about this before posting how I feel about this situation, as many of you know I take privacy seriously, and believe that it should be a right that is protected by web sites and users alike. However, I don't believe any person has an unalienable right to privacy. For instance if someone made threats against someone's life, then it would be prudent for a website, or even an inquisitive user, to provide the proper authorities with as much information as they can provide.
While at the same time websites should foster the environment, through anti-doxing and privacy rules, that anyone who acts within normal decency should be afforded what protections they have against having their personal information revealed against their will. Yet, the quandary here in this case is the user in question is clearly inciting hatred with some of his posts and memes, should he be afforded the same protections as an average user?
My thoughts seem to suggest that once you are infringing on another group or person's liberty, such as the aforementioned murder threat, or posting anti-Semitic memes, then you have forfeited any personal decency rights about protection of privacy owed to you by websites or other users. Although, If anyone has a strong argument for why it shouldn't be this way then I'd be happy to hear it.
Umm, what?No one is stopping this man from saying what he wants.
I think you'd have to show how it's in the public interest to know who I am because of my posts, and show that the posts in question were of a sufficient level to justify it. It's definitely a grey area.So if one of us disagrees with or takes offense to something that you post it's cool if we doxx you?
What the fuck?
Are you serious?
So he deserves anonymity to create an environment that fosters hatred of CNN employees due to their race?Umm, what?
Go ahead and say what you want but we'll doxx you for it, could likely lead to stopping him from expressing himself
That's what 4chan is claiming. Yet in his posting history he claimed to have a concealed carry license, and was a vet. Forgive me for not trusting 4chan completely. It was a fifteen year old boy posting a pro wrestling ,meme. You'd have to be pretty creepy to want his address I would think.
Alright, I actually like thatI think you'd have to show how it's in the public interest to know who I am because of my posts, and show that the posts in question were of a sufficient level to justify it. It's definitely a grey area.
i've seen others including a US congressman comment as to his age. I thought it was settled fact. I could be wrong? That's what 4chan is claiming. Yet in his posting history he claimed to have a concealed carry license, and was a vet. Forgive me for not trusting 4chan completely.
Imo everyone is entitled to their freedom of privacy whether I agree with them or notSo he deserves anonymity to create an environment that fosters hatred of CNN employees due to their race?
When Trump used this man's work on twitter, and then this man claimed responsibility he put himself in interest. Then his past history of racist attacks against CNN also become of interest.Alright, I actually like that
Now can you explain how his identity should be of public interest?
If CNN did go through with their threat, it would be for no other reason than vengeance
He also claimed he was a teen when an incident happened in 1990That's what 4chan is claiming. Yet in his posting history he claimed to have a concealed carry license, and was a vet. Forgive me for not trusting 4chan completely.
Business Times reported on his previous posts which claimed he had a concealed carry license, and was a vet. Only 4chan, who claimed to have also doxed this user, claims he is a 15 year old.i've seen others including a US congressman comment as to his age. I thought it was settled fact. I could be wrong?
Yeah, it's why I've been careful to say his posts claimed. I don't know one way or the other, but I am wary of trusting information from 4chan, because it's essentially a lot people trolling each other, with occasionally real information being involved. He also claimed he was a teen when an incident happened in 1990
Many people online that are young pretend to be older
I'm not sure 1 way or the other but I do know people have hacked into his personal Facebook and claim he is 15
Decent but I don't think that puts his identity in the public interest, it would mean his work is of public interestWhen Trump used this man's work on twitter, and then this man claimed responsibility he put himself in interest. Then his past history of racist attacks against CNN also become of interest.
So he was fronting as a tough guy on the internet eh. Sounds like a kid to me. If he is an adult I guess that means CNN is in slightly less hot water though. We're likely to know quite soon I think.Business Times reported on his previous posts which claimed he had a concealed carry license, and was a vet. Only 4chan, who claimed to have also doxed this user, claims he is a 15 year old.
Yep, always best to be safe until you can vet the info yourselfYeah, it's why I've been careful to say his posts claimed. I don't know one way or the other, but I am wary of trusting information from 4chan, because it's essentially a lot people trolling each other, with occasionally real information being involved.
There definitely seems to be a hint of blackmail. I think CNN will get away with it because they claim there was no actual deal made. If there was a deal made, and that guy can prove it, they might be in trouble.Decent but I don't think that puts his identity in the public interest, it would mean his work is of public interest
His privacy should still be maintained imo
The big thing is the blackmail imo
They may have broke a federal law man
I agree with this. CNN may be bullet proof. They are a very important organization. Very useful. There definitely seems to be a hint of blackmail. I think CNN will get away with it because they claim there was no actual deal made. If there was a deal made, and that guy can prove it, they might be in trouble.
Ya I don't think they'll face any real charges or anything but their public opinion will be at an all time low after thisThere definitely seems to be a hint of blackmail. I think CNN will get away with it because they claim there was no actual deal made. If there was a deal made, and that guy can prove it, they might be in trouble.
They enjoy favorable placement on the cable dial in every western country including mine despite their horrible standards and poor ratings. You have to believe somebody likes them up there.Ya I don't think they'll face any real charges or anything but their public opinion will be at an all time low after this
