So much for the idea UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor was going to take his money and run for the hills.

With the only fighter ever to simultaneously hold two UFC weight-class titles expected to bank upwards of $100 million for his Aug. 26 superfight against undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr., many speculated it would mark the end of McGregor’s combat sports career one way or another.

Why fight again, if you’ve make so much money you never have to work a day again in your life?

But with two weeks to go until the fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, McGregor sounds like a man who has a vision for his future. And it includes both boxing and mixed martial arts fights.

“I love the sport of boxing,” McGregor said during his media scrum following his open workout in Las Vegas on Friday. “Boxing has been dear to my heart my whole, entire life. “I will contend in boxing bouts going forward, and I will contend in mixed martial arts bouts going forward. I will rule both with an iron fist, and that’s where my mindset is.”

Fair enough if it's just super fights. Shouldn't be holding belts he doesn't have time to defend though

I could see this happening if he wins but do you think he has the same mindset if he gets destroyed? So many storylines waiting to be decided. I personally can't wait for the fight and don't mind paying the hundred bucks.

I've learned not to doubt what he says, so I'll just shut up and watch.

As much as it bugs me...you're right. And..as much as I hate admitting it...he's probably gonna be good at doing whatever the fook he wants.
His kid sure is cute..it makes me hate him less.

well hes still under contract by dana and cant box without their permission right?

soooo based on that being true, of course if hes going to fight again after mayweather, its going to be in the ufc ... right?
unless there is a big money fight in boxing after that dana wants in on.

i'd say McGregor plans to defeat mayweather, come back to the ufc and defend his belt against khabib/tony winner, and then go and box canelo or something, then maybe defend his belt one last time & retire

all I know is it would be really really sad to see McGregor get KTFO against Floyd, and then come back to the ufc and get whooped and lose his belt. that would be a big fall from glory, but at least he will have a pile of cash to land on

There is a saying that it is much easier to cry inside a Mercedes than on a bicycle. He'll be just fine.

I think the UFC should strip Conor of the LW belt, and give him an open weight division belt and then he can have as many circus money fights as he wants, and the LW division can get back to being what it used to be.

Legit

Why do that when they can just make the another new interim belt like they do every other ppv

As much coverage as the Malinaggi sparring sessions have gotten, it's hard to imagine that the money holders don't try to make a profit from the already existing interest.

If Conor loses to Mayweather, they probably line up Malinaggi next.

Hard to imagine, based on what his personality seems to be like, that Malinaggi takes an MMA fight vs Conor (even if Mali has major money problems), but if Conor loses to Mayweather it seems unavoidable that the money people don't try to make Conor vs Mali next, regardless of whether the loss is a total blow-out for May or closer than expected.

If Conor wins, him vs Mali might still be next.

If he loses, there's no way that Dana/others don't try to make him vs Mali next.

Yep good at it and entertaining. Ha he's class, d'you see him carrying him into the media scrum? Building a future champ so he is.

You know McGregor vs Malignaggi is next.

Doubtful... think he'll defend belt before boxing again. but it is less risky to fight malignaggi over canelo or GGG so if it's going to be a boxer it would be safest + already hyped to be against him
