Did a lot better than I thought he would. Went in there 0-0 against the boxing G.O.A.T and managed to win 3-4 rounds and landed more punches on Floyd than Pacquiao did :D His stock does nothing but rise with such a valiant effort.

Also sad (but not surprising) to see salty Brazilians Aldo and RDA laughing about Conor's loss on Twitter. Hey losers, Conor made more money in 30 minutes than you two clowns would make in 100 fights. Conor never ducked out of a fight in his life, meanwhile it was amazing when Aldo actually showed up for a fight. And RDA has been chased out of his own division and into irrelevancy. Aldo will forever be known as the guy who got absolutely destroyed by the two best fighters he ever faced.

Conor is a winner in the game of life and represented himself well.

Conor wins at the game of life, no doubt about it

And Aldo & RDA are pathetic, lol. At least Eddie showed grace with his response to the fight. Shows their true personalities IMO - Aldo & RDA still bitter and jealous.. Eddie accepting that he got beat by a better fighter and showing respect to him.

Except he didn't.

I know you were rooting for Floyd but do you honestly agree with those cards? Especially the 8 to 1? Can you make a compelling argument that Conor truly won only one round in this fight?

I'm genuinely curious.

Round 1, Conor landed 9 out of 34 shots to Floyd's 2 out of 6.

Round 2, Conor landed 8/42 shots out of Floyd's 5/10

Round 3, Conor landed 9/39 to Floyd's 5/12

Obviously Floyd won and the fight went literally exactly as I expected. But how can you post those scorecards as if they mean shit? Like, anyone who somehow thinks Floyd won the first 3 rounds is a crazy person. I feel bad for whoever has those judges assigned to them in the future because those types of scores are so beyond explanation that they end up costing guys title fights in bouts that count.

It's not like Conor was out there destroying Floyd or something early. But you shouldn't win a round for landing 2 of 6 punches, or 5 out of 10, when a guy is throwing/landing more than twice as much. It's not like Floyd landed 5 bombs. Conor simply out landed him in those rounds and won the rounds.

So what does the scorecards prove exactly when they're easily proven to be ludicrous?

I don't give a shit about Mayweather. I hate that I even had to pay attention to him at all.

To your point- it's different criteria in boxing. Maybe those two judges valued accuracy. He missed 25 times in round 1, 34 times in round 2, then 30 times in round 3.

And let's say he did win those rounds- does he want a participation trophy? Cause he looked dead on his feet the more the right went on after crowing about his conditioning.

I'm definitely not implying he deserves a participation trophy for winning those rounds. However, to that same point, I don't see what posting those scorecards proves either you know?

I understand the boxing criteria and was a boxing guy way before I got into MMA. Yeah Conor missed those shots but he threw more and landed more, while Floyd did very little in the opening rounds to let him get tired and adjust to his style.

It was brilliant by Floyd, he did everything right. But to me the cards just shows the ineptitude of the judges. Floyd's gameplan played out perfectly but I just don't see an argument for giving him the rounds where he basically did nothing.

I feel like If that were random fighter A vs random fighter B in some bout that didn't have nearly the hype or implications that this one did, nor the names involved.. and those rounds played out exactly like that between the 2, it would only be logical to score them for the person in Conor's position.

Just makes me sad on a whole that the careers of boxers are in the hands of judges like that.

Good insight and debate though.

Also I just wanna add.. I am not one of those numbers guys. I think compubox and punch stats can be really misleading. Especially in a close fight. I just pointed them out because in the case of the first 3 rounds Floyd's output was very very low and what he connected with wasn't absurdly powerful or anything.

But I have watched the fight twice now and really, in my mind by the boxing criteria that I know, Conor did win those rounds. My entire point in this definitely isn't like "oh but Conor did so good, LOOK! It's a moral victory, boxing sucks!".. .it's truly more related to how those judges gave the rounds to a guy who stood around, threw out a couple flicker jabs, and played defense.

Just no matter who those 2 guys were in there tonight, when you have one guy landing and throwing and the other guy sitting back and not doing much (because he is figuring things out, getting his timing down, etc) I think the round should go to the aggressor and guy who was actually landing shots. I guess my beef is just against the consistently bizarre scores we get in the boxing world.

A random side note too.. i recently rewatched Cotto vs Floyd and I really thought that fight was closer than I remembered it being after it happened. There were some rounds in there that were so difficult to score. Cotto is a hell of a fighter, and he had a pretty good performance last night too. Anyone catch it? I'm sad he is gonna be done soon but his career resurgence and brief MW title run was nice.. speaking of wonky scores, I also thought the judges in the Cotto/Canelo fight were way off, I thought that was pretty close also.. at least a lot more than the scorecards made it out to be.

If he had more gas tank then you really think Floyd would have won?
Floyds gas tank is due not only to training things like cardio. Go watch the fight again. Pure energy conservation throughout the entire fight until he decides to use energy. Conservation of movement. Game planning from round 1.

Floyd has a gas tank because he plans to have a gas tank.

Conor doesn't have a gas tank because he doesn't yet have the skill/style to have a gas tank. More cardio or whatever won't close that gap. It would take a game change. And with that, would those aggressive rounds be the same? Of course not.

First pro bout and he won the first 3 rounds.
By design.

I only gave Conor one round and wasn't impressed whatsoever.

The majority of people saying he done well lasting so long are the same people who said Floyd had no power and wouldn't finish it.

To me Floyd looked like the bigger puncher throughout the fight.

I gave him the first two.

But even in the first on mute, you see a the technical differences right away. Even while Conor is working up the round win with activity, you see Mayweather easily parrying and working about as hard as a sparring session, just trying to settle into that timing.

Then turn the audio on and realize Mauro is an idiot.

I think the commentary definitely swayed people into thinking Conor was doing better than he was after the third round. I mostly watch fights on mute/with music on because I like to just absorb it myself and form an opinion based on what I'm seeing instead of what guys are saying. Sometimes I will put on Spanish commentary or whatever over the fight so I can listen to the actual sounds of the fight but not have any understanding of what they are saying, lol.

But during a big event like this I want to hear the insight and I was surprised that Mauro, who seemed to be pretty realistic about Conor's chances in the build up, was giving him so much credit after the third. Probably was just caught up in the moment. I love Mauro though.

One disadvantage Mayweather had was that there was literally no tapes of Mcgregor to study, he needed the first few rounds to suss him out then he was on cruise control.

Lol I watched on Sky, Dan Hardy was commentating and Jonny Nelson said to him does this prove boxers are better. Dan said he'll kick him in the legs.

I was a fan of conor but not a huge fan because I'm an admitted Diaz nut hugger
Last night my respect for him grew exponentially
Fan for life..... except in a fight against a Diaz brother

Yeah I saw this and it annoyed me so much that I called Aldo out on it (in Portuguese no less).
