Lol @ Stanton being #1
It's in Miami. And he won last year, didn't he? I'm guessing those are the reasons.

Note : Berman is NOT doing the commentating. I repeat : Berman is NOT doing the commentating.

You won't be subjected to an annoying idiot yelling back back back back back back back back back back on every home run.

ESPN should be advertising his absence. Viewership would skyrocket. Never in the history of any contest has an announcer completely ruined an event as much as Berman ruined the HR Derby. Good riddance.

I loved Berman's calling the HR derby, then I turned 8 years old

I thought Votto was open to the derby, did he change his mind? Some of these guys with great contact can put them in the seats at will, & Votto has power. Saw Wade Boggs take BP as a kid, he was cranking them out like nothing. He wasn't cranking them into the upper deck or anything, he seemed to know just how to clear the fence by 5-10 feet

They asked him. He declined. He takes hitting pretty seriously. He claimed a fear of injury, but he's probably more worried about having it effect his swing. Dude chokes up during BP. Haha. He has half of the Reds hitters choking up. It's pretty interesting.

From the Reds, Duval or Schebler would have been good selections. Better than Sanchez - good hitter, but he hasn't earned a Derby spot. Which probably means he'll win.

I get it when individual guys express this concern, but I think overall it's blown out of proportion. The swing change for a derby is minimal, and it's one night of different reps. I know the groove is a delicate thing, but it really shouldn't screw a guy up.

Votto was choked up on that HR he hit yesterday. At least the reds have one thing to cheer for this year.

Speaking of cheering where are all the scrub fans at. At least the will get to see Bryant, Rizzo and Heyward in the ASG, oh wait they have one player and its the closer they just traded for. Didnt take long for them to go back to being the dubs again. Cub fans are doing their best to prove they are even more fair weathered than the royals fans from 2 years ago.

I don't disagree, but Votto is pretty fanatical about his approach at the plate. I'm not surprised that he doesn't want to mess with the derby.

Yeah, I understand when guys don't want to mess with their money maker. I also concede that they know their swing better than I do (obviously). There are a lot of fans who think it'll mess everybody's swing up and they talk about an inevitable decline, and that's what I disagree with. Not saying you're alluding to that.

Bour was sittin pretty with 22 HR. But for Judge that was no problem. He got 23. One hit the roof that probably would have flown to Beijing. Sano advanced but his pitcher sucks hard. I think Sanchez gets to the finals vs Judge for a Yankee showdown.

Judge is a beast.
Not that anyone needed a HR Derby to confirm that, but it was fun to watch.

would you rather have 200 innings pitched by the 2nd best pitcher in baseball or 80, where half of them could be done by an average pitcher? I don't understand how he has a job these days. Imagine if Chapman started against the Giants in game 5 or started the 1 game playoff with the Pirates
I'd have Max start every game of the season but only pitch 3 innings at most. Because... well... It would be fucking wild hahah

In their last 34 games, the Dodgers are 30-4.

That's insane.

The Yankees have acquired Todd Frazier in a trade.

The Toddfather is batting .207 so far this season with only 16 dingers.

Yankees get Frazier along with relievers Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson.

The White Sox get Tyler Clippard and a pack of prospects. Blake Rutherford, Tito Polo and Ian Clarkin.

Kahnle and Robertson have been very good this year. Frazier has value as well, despite his inability to hit for average. He sees a lot of pitches, has a lot of power, and has a good glove at both corner IF positions. Plus, this keeps him out of Boston.

Chicago now has 10 of the top 68 prospects in baseball (Moncada, Jimenez, Kopech, Robert, Rutherford, Giolito, Lopez, etc.), according to mlb.com. Moncada was called up today, but the plan is to tank and clear payroll the rest of this year and next. They should be sitting pretty in 2019 and beyond.
