Sigh.........why do we have to keep building up the hopes of these (for now) first place teams?

Red Sox have lost 2 out of 3 in their last 3 series. KC, Seattle and Angels. Now they have a 3 game set with the Indians, who have won 9 of their last 10.

I'm not saying it's time to panic.

But it might be time to panic.

It's time to point and laugh.

The rich get richer...

Dodgers nabbed Yu Darvish
Yankees get Sonny Gray

Wow, they gave up Mateo and Fowler along with another young guy for Gray.
Gray is only 27 I think.
And I believe his contract is through 2019.
So it's not exactly a "rent a player" that you usually see in these situations.

Although he's not what I would call a dominant pitcher. He's been doing very well of late though. Should be interesting.

Imagine being a Seattle fan, from the outside looking in with a 16 year playoff drought.
The last time we were in the playoffs we tied the ML record & 1906 Cubbies for most wins in a season and set the AL record going an insane 116-46, scoring the most and allowing the fewest, and got ousted by the freaking Yankees in 5.

Now we're contending with the freaking Astros, who look like they're walking away with the A.L. just like the Dodgers in the N.L.
Hell at least the Bosox average playoffs every couple few years.

I'm a Reds fan bro.
I'm still clutching to that 1990 WS win.

That was 27 years ago.

Jose Altuve went 2-4 yesterday, closing out his batting average for the month of July at .485

During the month, he raised his average for the season from an already impressive .330 to his current mark of .368

Yeah, it's a good pickup.

Random stat of the day.

Ty Cobb, who retired with a lifetime batting average of .366, could have come out of retirement and gone hitless in his next 2,526 at bats and he still would have retired with a .300 batting average.

During a 13 year stretch, Cobb lead the league in batting average 12 times. The year he missed out on he hit .371, finishing 2nd to Tris Speaker's .386

After a slump, the Red Sox have put together 5 wins in a row and command a 3 game lead in the AL East.

Both CLE and KC have cooled off, basically playing .500 ball over the last 10 days. CLE still has a 3 game lead in the AL Central.

Houston has fallen to shit, losing 7 of their last 10, but there's nobody in the West that is even close to them. HOU has a 14.5 game lead over SEA.

In the NL, the Brewers have managed to win 3 in a row and are hanging on in the Central, sitting only 1/2 game behind Chicago. I still think it's only a matter of time before the Cubs run away with that one.

Washington (13 game lead) and the Dodgers (14.5 game lead) are sitting pretty in their divisions.

Roughly 50 games to go in the season.

I didn't know man
There hasn't been much news on it. I saw it randomly while looking through stats for catchers of the 80s/90s. Just happened to see a small article about it. He was a great defensive catcher.

I remember watching him protect the plate on plays at the plate......he wasn't moving
