Watched some Reacher.

... I don't get why smaller guys line up confidently to fight this gigantic man. Over and over, with absolute certainty they'll win. Makes no sense.

The action is okay, but when people start acting, holy shit. Bad dialogue delivered terribly.

I had thought Tom Cruise was miscast in the film; too small. This guy is miscast because he's too big. I just don't buy that this guy would ever lose a street fight.

I suppose I'm tired of "mysterious man with military background is nearly invulnerable and just wants to be left alone but..."

It happens literally all the time, irl.
I suppose.
It's just that the guy is so big it's unrealistic. 99 percent of the time his size alone would defuse a situation.
I get that it's written that way, but a smaller actor who's bigger than Cruise would've been a better choice.

Guy is too big to be believably vulnerable, and only good acting could save it for me. He's not being nominated for anything too soon is my guess.

reacher is a big dude in the books. and he lives a life of kicking ass and taking names

itd be pretty unrealistic for a guy like tom cruise to consistently win

Definitely. The actor can't be the Rock, likeable as he is; he's not gonna lose a fight unless he gets shot.
Cruise isn't believably winning any of the fights in the film.

Sounds like a trip to the library so I can give the series a chance.

full disclosure: ive only done book 1 (which season 1 was adapted from)

WORLD: very little world building since its our world

CHARACTER: the books are short, so there arent many characters, and some of the books are 1st person-pov, which is an inferior style to rolling third-person limited imo

CONFLICT: again, due to the books being short, the plots are fairly linear

so, long story short, it was a fun little read. but a light read. and there's a time a place for light reads. no doubt. but with that said ... team THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE right here!!
