Two former F1 Champs are competing in today's NASCAR race at COTA.
Jenson Button will start 22nd
Kimi Roakkonen will start 24th
It's a 39 car field.
Another non-NASCAR big name is also competing - sportscar driver Jordan Taylor - AKA Rodney Sandstorm. He's sitting in for Chase Elliott. Taylor has won the 24 Hours at Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Corvette. He ran well enough to qualify for 4th place in the starting grid. Impressive.
Today they turn right.
Green flag drops at 3:30 eastern.

Well, sad news.
They opened their season and Justin Owen - 26 years old - flipped his sprint car entering Turn 3 during qualifying and died. They cancelled racing for the rest of the night. He's a local driver who has been at it for 10 years or so. He was the track champion last year.
I'm not going to post the video but I did see it. It was violent, but all sprint car crashes are once they get tumbling. He biked it entering turn 3 and got into the wall with a flip. This one didn't look any different than most. I guess you never know.

I put a small wager on Logano to win. This race is often about who survives the big one. If he survives that, Logano knows how to work his way through a pack at Talladega. Hint: The secret is to rattle their cage a bit, get em loose and pass them on the inside. Most won't do that anymore. Logano doesn't give a fuck.

For clarification - F1 requires at least 1 pit during the race. A couple teams were hoping for caution but when it never came they had to pit late to avoid penalty.
The idiot media flooded pit lane during the last lap even though Ocon still had to come in. The announcers were losing their fucking minds because people were everywhere.
