COVID-19 doubters describe less functional safety behaviour. Fear of the virus is evident, similar to non-doubters. Generalized anxiety and depression were significantly higher in doubters. Repression and denial as psychological defence mechanisms could be the unconscious psychological strategy for coping with the distress variables. The results point out that public strategies may only be successful in managing opinions and beliefs if they address fears and worries.

Per case its not. Issue is that its so contagious that everyone is getting at once. Even if you have a lot less hospitalizations or deaths per case you can still overrun your hospitals. We are doing it here right now. No transfers available for non COVID things and patients spending days in the ER waiting on an ICU bed.

Good news is that after this a huge number of us will have antibodies at the same moment and might result in an endemic disease that is less dangerous to the populous than other diseases we are all used to.
We are peaking as a country now so should be at the tail end of this by the end of next month across the USA. Early for some of the first omicron areas.

There are many variants that didn't have the chops to become the dominate variant. It is unlikely, given omicrons ubiquity currently, that this variant will result in clinically significant increase in disease/deaths at this time.
