The 3 or 4 most promising potential treatments that we have on tap should all be nationally focused to get evidence for the exact same reasons you mention. It could happen SO much faster with that unified direction. Large multicenter studies, serum banking, etc.
We have 1000s in the inpatient setting that would be good candidates for many of these interventions and could be with basic informed consent.
We have 10,000's recovered just walking around with antibodies. Currently those people might have serum that is a treatment, but also those recovered patients represent likely immunity. How are we using them? Do any of them want jobs? or are we just sending them back home even though they represent a much lower risk individual.

In a lot of ways, this all comes back to testing. Since we are still not testing at appreciable amounts in much of the country, we can't all pitch in to share that data. We have the ability to share this data centrally right now in a way that could have never happened during SARS or MERS. This should be a full court press and we could have some really useful trends in weeks if you had a large enough sample size.
You're spot on about utilizing recovereds better (at all).

I forgot to add that Australia is following Trump in ordering hydroxychloroquine. Trump is stockpiling 29 million courses. Our government proudly announced that we've ordered...wait for it... 2 thousand courses! That's certainly enough to go around in a nation of 25 million.

We currently have not enough PPE across the country. Trump briefly made the allegation that hospital staff were stealing all the supplies because a hospital went from 20,000 mask to 300,000 mask. To him, it's impossible for a hospital to suddenly have 15 times as many respiratory patients or have increased PPE needs when every single patient in the emergency department must be triaged using full PPE.

So what are we doing about the PPE shortage? Essentially nothing and millions and millions of mask and disposable gowns are in existence in the United States right now and are still being shipped overseas in the same manner as they always are to the highest bidder.

There's talk about using the defense protection act or whatever to get manufacturers to pump out different items than they normally make. I'm not sure why we have not locked down existing PPE and ear mark it for domestic use in these times

We have universal healthcare, yes. Like every other developed nation except for one. It works pretty well compared to other countries.

Just ask one Donald J. Trump:

"We have a failing healthcare," Trump said.

"And I shouldn't say this to our great gentleman and my friend from Australia, because you have better healthcare than we do."

Oh I forgot to mention, I went for a walk earlier, everything is closed apart from pharmacies and oddly, candy stores. I did see the butchers was open and for some reason a cafe, takeout only.

I was surprised there were as many people out as I saw. I figured it was gonna be like 28 days later. Lots of SARS masks, not enough scarves.

No places to buy a PlayStation or Xbox

Nah
Don't think anyway. Been this way for weeks now. Pharmacy and grocery stores only.

Until like today I guess the chocolate shops count as vital.

Oh banks and I think the post office too.

Another thing, in America and the USA you have stores that are open 24/7. Over here they don't. They have day shops and night shops, usually sell booze, smokes, few snacks, ran by Indian. Well the night shops used to open at 6-6am. Now they can only operate until 10pm.

After 10 it really is a ghost town.

We have grocery stores, gas stations, banks open for business as usual other than trying to maintain six feet between people (there's probably more than that). All restaurants, breweries, weed stores, and liquor stores are also open for take out and to go services.

Based on what and compared to who? The amount of unproven malaria pills that's been ordered?

You have no idea what you're talking about. Just listen to your boy Trump. He spelled it out in plain English for you.

My boy Trump? Never met him, never voted for him. Guy says a ton of stupid shit so I'm not sure listening to him is the best advice.
