this is just pure falsehoodNot a single person in the government spoke against slavery and worked to end it because they genuinely believed it to be a monstrous evil, of course.
Not even one.

That's not at all true. The whole purpose of these forums is to discuss things and none of us have a monopoly on knowing what we're talking about. For what it's worth, you're one of my favorite posters because you try ideas and seem to have a good sense of humor about it, which is all that's required for thinking seriously about anything. I didn't send this to correct you, but rather to gently nudge you to consider it another way. I hope it's useful.solid video. im with him in terms of what we should be focused on so as to forge a better future
as far as how to discuss racial topics, im not part of any organization that discusses and speaks out about such topics
that video reminded me that i was foolish for trying to express my uneducated opinions about it on a forum. my words were a waste of my own time as well as that of others. lets see how long i remember that tho lol

I broadly agree with a lot of the quote you’ve posted. I think I need to go read the article @kneeblock tagged you in as well.appreciate your kind words
but i now realize that i foolishly speak about things that i have only recently come to realize that i am ignorant on. and despite being aware of my ignorance, im still ignorant on those topics

I’ll begin by putting all the cards on the table because the political stakes of the moment are too great for coyness or politesse.1 No matter what those who propound it may believe about themselves or, more meaningfully, want the rest of us to believe about them, contemporary race-reductionist politics—i.e., what is commonly recognized as antiracist politics—is not in any way left, egalitarian, or democratic. It is not linked to any popular, insurgent, or “bottom-up” black or other political expressions. It is not oriented practically toward a vision of broadly egalitarian social transformation, nor is it at all aligned with or congenial to any project of generating a political movement toward such ends. Even when packaged as opposing an abstraction like “racial capitalism” or as advocating “both anti-racism and socialism,” this politics is incapable of adopting the standpoint of building the broad working-class solidarities that are the sine qua non of any project of egalitarian transformation, on whatever scale. In the words of socialist anti-racist Keeanga Yamahtta-Taylor, “we want to win white people to an understanding of how their racism has fundamentally distorted the lives of Black people.”2 That approach is the opposite of pursuing solidarity.

“Let Me Go Get My Big White Man”: The Clientelist Foundation of Contemporary Antiracist Politics – Nonsite.org
All this makes crystal clear why proponents of race-reductionist politics are so unmoved by criticism based on effectiveness for generating a popular politics or for winning egalitarian reforms at all. Just as with the Bookerite progenitor, developing and advancing a popular politics is not the...nonsite.org
Nope.this is just pure falsehood
Nope.
Apparently you believe that every politician is a selfless humanitarian who makes every single decision with no consideration of anything other than what's in the best interests of the common good?
Ha!
What you fail to realise, is that this is not in fact the case.
Actuality, politicians are generally selfish, ambitious, egotistical liars whose main priority is to retain and grow their power and standing in the heirarchy.
Real thinkers understand that because politics is made up of people, and because people are imperfect and often greedy and corrupt and shortsighted....... that means that no politician has ever said or done anything simply because they genuinely believed it was the right thing to do for society.
Not even one of them, for anything. Not even a single time.
Not ever.
The world is just as simple and binary as that, don't you understand?

Are you sure it's not because you're a Jedi wizard?Because I'm an empath I sense there's some sarcasm in this post
This is true. But most likely you and I would not have been a "we". We would have been picking it for somebody else for garbage, wages or debt pay off. Slaves were cheaper than indentured white servants. But the capitalism of the South was artificial and incredibly short-sighted doomed always to failure because the plantation owners were idiots. We should have picked our own cotton.
I was just repeating a bumper sticker that I read off a redneck’s truck. My people were dirt poor potato farmer serfs in Ireland. This is true. But most likely you and I would not have been a "we". But the capitalism of the South was artificial and incredibly short-sighted doomed always to failure because the plantation owners were idiots.
Black reconstruction (web dubois) describes in great detail the economic powerhouse that the Confederacy was on the global stage.
70% of all US exports by value.
It had a near global monopoly on cotton.
The Confederacy was so overconfident in their cotton that they went and blocked it themselves. After the union tried to block it. They just said alright screw it no cotton for the world in hopes that it would force Europe to come to their aid and end the war. In an ironic capitalistic move, Europe and France were like lol we'll just go get some more cotton from India and Egypt. We arent fucking around with you kids. We got to worry about the union coming after Canada if we do that.
In the background of all of this, the Confederacy was absolutely garbage at farming practices. Because of greedy shortsighted plantation owners planting only cotton for the immediate results. They basically destroyed all their land and became a land power that needed expansion to continually grow the economy. They continued to get worse and worse cotton crops and not be able to turn over the soil because they were too greedy and not interested in long-term sustainability. Typical tragedy of the Commons. They should have rotated crops.
The slave trade was based on greed. Racism was based on greed. And the failure of the Confederacy to win the war, despite having 70% of the entire nation's economic output was based on short-sighted greed as well. It all only really benefited the land owning southern elite. We're still sitting around trying to fix these ripples because some greedy assholes were more interested in themselves than America as an ideal and country. Without slaves, the antebellum plantation owners would have just looked for indebted servitude for near slave-like conditions. Their shortsightedness and refusal to create a system that shared the wealth beyond themselves might have led to similar tension if not war. And would have definitely ended up in economic collapse as their own profits and wealth were threatened by their own actions.
At least you would have gotten paid!!This is true. But most likely you and I would not have been a "we". We would have been picking it for somebody else for garbage, wages or debt pay off.
At least you would have gotten paid!!
My mom was one of 11 children. My grandmother would take the girls who were old enough and pick cotton in the summer. The man would not pay my grandmother or the girls. Grandfather had to drive over to collect the wages on Fridays.
