Does McGregor return to MMA?

He does, only because I don't feel that a guy his status wants to go out with a loss (even if it was another sport, and he made a shitload of cash doing it). His best shot at winning is to fight another MMA fight.

You are so right, everyone else is gullible but you hold the key. You totally called that, bro and YES - Conor and Ronda are totally comparable to Sage Northcutt - a guy who has never beaten anyone in the top 15 of his weight class. Conor knocked out a 10 year long undefeated, all time great in 13 seconds and won the championship in two different weight classes.. but he's absolutely comparable to Sage Northcutt.

I can't imagine what leads someone to make these kind of statements, and actually believe them. It's like you live in an alternate universe. Making posts like this would make anyone who actually understands this sport take you for a fool and essentially disregard anything else you say due to what is just a clear lack of understanding and ignorance of what you are watching.

Ronda was, is, and will continue to be the best women's champion ever. Defended her belts against the best competition available, including another former olympian, and dominated the vast majority of them. Is it her fault the talent pool is shallow? No. Is it her fault she didn't switch to a better camp? Yes.

How many time has the Irish guy defended his belt? Zero.
 
Honestly, the Irish guy impressed me last night. He did better than I thought he would have. I hope he enjoys his money and parties like Len Bias.

It's situations like this that should make everyone see how badly needed a formalized system of rankings and matchups is needed. This whole "who's he gonna fight next?" bullshit is so tiresome. And it's certainly not just about Conor, but almost every title fight or significant matchup. If they'd just rank the fighters with an algorithm or human panel (yes I know, the journalists do this but the UFC is free to ignore these "rankings") then we would know exactly who Conor would be fighting next if/when he returns.

This guesswork, "let's feel it out" approach is so bad and unfair to many people. The fighters are forced to become their own carnival barkers, moonlighting as clapping seals in line for the chance to fight Conor McGregor. May the best bullhorned beggar win!

This is a really good post, but I just can't take it seriously when it's next to a Fedor avatar.
 
I really don't see Conor going back to boxing right now. Maybe down the line a bit.

Obviously there's the Malignaggi fight, and it's a winnable fight, but that's a huge risk for a much smaller payday than the Mayweather fight. Right now he can claim he was competitive with the pound-for-pound best boxer alive with no professional experience, and ride on that in MMA.

The biggest money fight for him right now is a third Diaz fight. I'm not sure it necessarily needs to be on the Superbowl Weekend card, I think it would draw enormously regardless of when. He could also get a $20 million purse for it.

This! against Nathan Diaz, boxing isn't for him and most of the MMA fighters it's too limited, if you can hold a dude and bash his face in i'm out.
 
With the back end money and the guaranteed money, Conor should make close to $80 million. The UFC is going to get a cut. Trainers and taxman get a cut. All told, he'll probably walk away with around 30 million, which was his guaranteed amount. Still very good, but likely not enough to retire off of with the lifestyle he likes to lead. I expect him to fight once or twice more at a guaranteed $20 million either in boxing or MMA.

True, but a good financial advisor could invest $10 mill of that at 5-6% return a year at least. That's a good $400-500k once you take out the advisors cut, but I know that thinking a bit too logically hehehe

I knew what you were talking about. Here's more on my position...I don't blame any fighter for the circumstance the promotion puts him in or what that promotion allows him in terms of fight selectivity. I have the same complaint about Fedor's career that I do about anybody's in the UFC, with their random, whimsical matchups and interim titles. But that should not be taken as a diss on the fighter. I think Conor's an incredible fighter, but his UFC career is wack-a-doodle, starting with the first Nate Diaz fight.

Ya man Its tough, paulie is his best option for a really good payout
Way less risk of getting seriously hurt and still a really good pay day that might not be as much as a ggg or canelo fight, but probably a lot more than he'll make in the UFC
