It's not a democracy though. It's your private business. You should be able to make executive decisions without fear of mutiny over such trivial things.
We've always wanted it to be. We had this vision of us as just instruments of the crowd. I never wanted to mod anything. That's why we had so many mods and wanted to rotate them. Don't be cops. Just nudge the crowd to enforce itself with members that demonstrate great posting style. In the end moderating is a thankless job and it burns people out. So that was a bust.
I could write a book on all the things we've done wrong in an attempt to do right.
Still think about it often and how to create a user environment that encourages high posting volume with user input and not having conflicting ideologies force one half off the board.
