There's shit about the UFC, Bellator, etc, that annoys the hell out of me but at the end of the day I'm a fight fan and I love watching great fights. Always have, always will.

Its the state of the internet era
people wake up & immediately go to "what can I bitch about?" & "who can I troll?" on the net

NFL fucking up their rules will bring some who seek violence.
I like MMA still

But I am not sure I like like it anymore

grandpa hasn't watched a full card in a while now(very tired of multiple platforms to jump from for each card)

Yeah. I hate the interim title shit UFC pulls but at the end of the day, if it's a great fight for a bullshit interim title, whatever, I'm still gonna watch.

I see people on Sherdog like "OMG this obsession with Conor has ruined MMA for me" and it's like if Conor has ruined MMA for you, you weren't a real fan to begin with!

Of course there are issues with MMA
but some just dwell on the negative

Those that you described on SD need to realize that Conor didn't ruin MMA for them, but caring so much about an internet forum did.
They give the things/people they dislike more power then they should.

I post here & SD
If there is a thread about a topic I'm not interested in or tired of discussing ... I DON'T PARTICIPATE IN IT

Seems easy enough

People who hate the state of MMA are the same as the dopes who kneel during the anthem and hate on America. They're focusing on the small bad parts and ignoring the great parts.
This is one of the dumbest things I've read on this site, and with the high amount of trolls in this site, that says a lot.

Because I don't like the disparity in organization earnings and what they pay fighters, or promotors screwing over friends of mine, or shitty reffing, or the UFC basically becoming pro wrestling with their fighters peddling their Ric Flair personas just to get popular (or worse racist ones ala Covington), the issue is with me? Because they have a handful of decent fights, I have to accept the bullshit gimmicks, the Conor copycats, the bullshit matchups for fake titles, and the "we'll serve you up whatever shit and you'll like it" attitude promotors have?

Because I personally like fighters to display the honor and bushido code that seemed to be prevalent in the JMMA scene, rather than the dumbass frat boy just bleed, I just wanna bang that the UFC in particular shove down your throat, the issue is with me?

If anything, there are a few small things that are good with MMA floating on the sea of shit that is happening... For all the good things Bellator, OneFC, Invicta, and PFL are doing, they get muted out (either as a byproduct or by design) from the UFC. The UFC needs an overhaul, but sadly since for most people the UFC is MMA, the bulk of what's out there is bullshit.

And for the 19th billion time, NFL players who kneel during the anthem are protesting police violence against the black community, not because they hate America.... How protesting against people in your community being killed by asshole cops is synonymous with being upset that a once honorable sport is being diminished by bullshit is beyond me.

I'm not going to debate the NFL thing here in the MMA forum, but allow me to respond to the rest.

I never said you couldn't complain about MMA or not like aspects. I complain about shit the UFC (and Bellator) do all the time on here. You don't like over the top personas? Great. The shitty interim belts? Fantastic. Nothing wrong with that.

But at the end of the day, if you let the things you don't like effect your enjoyment of the actual sport - two skilled fighters in a cage competing - than yes, the issue is with you.

By all means, complain about the stuff you don't like. Everyone does. I'm talking about the people who stop watching the actual sport because BOO HOO, Conor talks shit and a lot of people like him. Those people are crybabies and not true fans. If I could, I'd change a LOT of shit with MMA, but just because I can't I'm not going to go cry and stop being a fan of the sport.

No YOU compared hating the state of MMA (which even by your statements have issues) is comparable to the "dopes who kneel during the national anthem and hate on America".... Your words.

BECAUSE we are fans we complain about the bullshit because we want it to be better... Because some of us train fighters and have friends/associates who fight, we are passionate about it and want it to be better. Because we care, we want to see the bullshit end and get back to honorable fights between skilled combatants..... But it seems just like with your take on the anthem protestors (you brought it up, so it will be quoted against you), you prefer to keep your head in the sand and accept the bullshit. There are plenty of people trying to do their part to improve MMA, people who don't like the current state and are working hard to improve it.... So the "I can't change it, so I'll just keep my mouth shut and enjoy what they give me" attitude doesn't have to be your only solution.

"Quoted against you" - feel free, I stand by what I said and my comparison. When you make a comparison between two things, you're not saying "THESE THINGS ARE 100% ALIKE IN EVERY WAY". There's a thread in Off Topic about it I believe, if you want to discuss it there I can tell you why I think it's an idiotic protest. But out of respect for Frankie, I don't want to derail his thread with off-topic banter. Believe me, I have no problem going into the NFL kneeling bullshit.

But I feel like you're going off on a tangent and ignoring what I'm saying. "I can't change it, so I'll just keep my mouth shut and enjoy what they give me"... umm, if you read my last post, I ENCOURAGED you and everyone else to openly complain about things they don't like in the sport. I do it all the time here, as I said. But I'm not going to abandon a great sport because it has issues.

MMA is a big sport. If you have issues with what the UFC is doing, boycott the UFC. That's fine. But if someone turns their back on the entire sport, they were a shit fan to begin with IMO

A majority of what I'm talking about has to do with MMA and the state of MMA..... AGAIN YOU are the one who compared those who hate the state of MMA to the "dopes who kneel during the anthem and hate America". I'm telling you that those who hate the state of MMA and complain about it, do so because they're fans, because (like me for nearly 20 years) train/coach/participate in MMA, have friends/family/students who fight MMA.... Because we are passionate about it, we want change, we want it to improve, we want the bullshit to stop... No one is talking about not being a fan.... But if they choose to be, because the current state decides to push bullshit over substance, you can't chastise them for not keeping their heads in the sand and just eating whatever bullshit is being served up.

MMA overall has issues that need to be addressed.... Fighter health and safety concerns, rules, PED usage, fighter pay, officiating, retirement plans, etc..... And for us with horses in the race, we want that to be rectified.... It's hard watching people you're close with struggle and suffer. The UFC specifically has numerous PR and promotions issues.. how they choose to market fighters, their numerous bullshit interim titles, the "Conor effect", and a lot of the issues that effect MMA as a whole..... People care, and people also find it hard to support it while these issues exist

I don't know how else to further clarify myself. So I'll just reiterate...

1) I never attacked people for complaining or trying to make MMA better. I was addressing fans who turned their back on the sport completely. I've seen it a lot on other boards. "This obsession with Conor has ruined MMA for me, I don't even watch anymore" - those type of people.

2) If people have issue with the UFC's actions - which is understandable, because I myself have a ton of issues with their actions - they should turn their backs on the UFC, not on MMA. It's a big sport - don't want to support UFC? That's fine. Support Bellator, WSOF, or one of the many other promotions.

3) If people are butt hurt to the point of not following the sport because people are talking trash and not everyone is a dull, "I'm just a humble martial artist"-type character, I say fuck em. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, crybabies.

4) The NFL kneeling protest is completely idiotic and useless. Instead of getting people to talk about and solve (supposed) out of control violence against African Americans perpetrated by cops, all they did was piss off half the country and the entire dialogue was about whether they should be allowed to kneel or not. If you asked 100 random people on the street, I gaurantee you most wouldn't know why they were kneeling in the first place. They'd probably tell you they were protesting Trump! So yeah, it was a brain dead protest and it failed hard in it's goal.

Saying you want to help and make positive change means nothing if your methods are detrimental to your cause.

Like Antifa: what do they want? To stop hatred and bigotry. How are they going to do it? By putting on masks and assaulting citizens, police, and journalists, and destroying property. Not great tactics.

Pissing people off by disrespecting the anthem and the flag were horrible tactics, so sorry, you get no bonus points for shitty tactics in the real world!

The sport is always fun to watch evolve, but it's getting harder because it's not some ramshackle operation held together with spit and glue anymore. It's genuine multibillion dollar companies holding it up and fighters still aren't being paid fairly considering the risks they take and the regulation they're subjected to. I still love a good fight, but it's getting harder and harder to just look the other way.

I don't mean to insert myself here, but one of the best things about this site is that for the most part it lacks the judgment and insults of the UG and other sites. Disagree and debate, but calling a post/opinion "one of the dumbest things" is bad form IMO (especially from a channel mod). Respectfully.

Do you need a safe space? If I see someone say something ignorant (and backpedal) I'm going to call it out..... Dude.... "People who hate the state of MMA are the same as the dopes who kneel during the anthem and hate on America." in the sociopolitical climate of this country, that can be considered an attack.... You stretched to compare two things that have no relevance to each other in any way and are now back peddling to fit your narrative.

And this sport IS based on honor.... If you're into the cartoon character, "Just Bleed" style of MMA, where everyone from Tito to Charlotte to Conor have all admitted that they were inspired by Ali and WWE trash talk.... That's you.... If you need the Colby Covington's and Kevin Lee's and the shiny shirt/sunglasses inside fighters to get you excited about the sport, more than the humble classy fighters like Fedor, Maia, Sage Northcutt.... That's you. A lot of people... Hell even Zuffa at the time... Tried steering away from that bullshit to legitimize the sport, but you seem to like it, and say "fuck em. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, crybabies."... That's you and YOUR tastes.... So you are hating on everyone else who has a different opinion on what they want.

Maybe you need to look at yourself and your intolerance towards others, rather than comparing them to people you deem are crybaby America haters because they disagree with your opinion

Your reading comprehension is abysmal. I never backpedalled on a single thing I said, I would double down on any statement I made, so for you to accuse me of backpedalling is comical.

And no, IT'S YOU, because my tastes are not keeping me from enjoying the sport I love. Apparently it is for you. That's your problem, not mine.

How come you giving a negative opinion on MY tastes is cool, but me giving a negative opinion on YOUR tastes is hating and intolerant?

You took offence to my statement on the NFL protests and barrelled in, ranting and raving about nonsense. Cool down!

Oh boo hoo! Baby don't like Conor and his fans talking trash!! Boo hoo! Baby want everyone in MMA to act like Caine in Kung Fu! Baby stop watching MMA! Waahhhh wahhh...

I'm supposed to have respect for a view like this? Guys like Conor have drawn more blood (money and interest, not literal blood, since I know you have a problem with metaphor) into this sport than 1000 boring, humble, Bushido guys. Don't like him? That's your business. But don't call me "intolerant" because I think it's immature to cry about it!

I love how I ended my comment with "Respectfully" and you came back asking if I need a safe space. Not sure that was needed. I get along with everyone here; not looking for that to change. Obviously if you don't like something, call it out; if someone calls you out defend it. Wasn't trying to ruffle your feathers, just hoping to keep the discourse respectful so this place doesn't devolve to some of the other MMA blog sites. All the best.

there have been MUCH MUCH better times in mma, but it is looking up for a bit here as OP stated. its been kinda dull latley since the high from may/mac last year and mma is getting some great fights to watch at least. that is the sucky part and the part i do agree with haulport on, that is pretty much all we got left, hoping for some good fights. but as fight fans thats pretty good if we do get some good fights. of course i want to see many changes and and hate alot of things about the current state of mma, but when good fights are up i try to forget or ignore that shit for a moment and enjoy what i can. my life having issues affects my enjoyment for mma more than anything. and sometimes mma is the only lifeline i got left of enjoyment. so heres what im looking forward to (which is much more than normal):

bellator:

hw gp (3 GREAT fights left)
ww gp (esp mvp/daley)
bellator 206 (moose/rory, 1st ww gp fight, wandy/rampage, pico fight)
minakov return
kharitonov/nelson
machida's debut
cro-cop will get a fight soon (REALLY want cc vs fedor 2 and cc vs kharitonov)
any manhoef fight (him vs machida or wandy are dream fights for me)
what ever happened to maruis zaromskis?

whats josh barnett doing? bellator go get him please!
they need to get that hw amir aliakbari!
might as well get carwin & herring for one last run too!

ufc:

woodley/till
hunt/anyone
ufc 229(conor/khabib, fergy/pettis, lewis/volkov, hottie/herrig
ufc230(diaz/poirier, rockhold/weidman, romero/costa?
edgar/zombie, cerrone/perry
ngannou/blaydes
cyborg/nunes
dc/brock
jones return (vs. dc 3, brock, anderson all sound good)
the big colby covington return
gsp vs anyone (vs. conor, anderson, ww champ or diaz 2 preferably)
diaz bros vs anyone
ortega/holloway when that happens
whitaker/gastelum after tuf
any fights with gus, lawler, reem, jds, garbrandt, stipe

and looking forward to Oscar's new promotion and liddell/tito 3. hopefully he does something big and we get a new promotion with $$$ and fighters having another choice.

and i always watch any of alexs e.'s and pudz fights!
