Just signed up for the Grappling Industries NC-vs-SC tournament later this month. It will be the first time I have competed for Grappling Industries. They have round robin brackets, so hopefully I will get a bunch of matches. Their rule set is very good (close to anything goes at expert level), so it should be a fun time.

Phenomenal tournament, my good friend Marcos Flores is the tournament director.... Great ruleset, it's well run, you'll have a great day

Kids had an in-house tourney few weeks ago, son took gold and daughter did not medal. She did however do amazing in her second match. Score was 12-4 for other kid and they had a head clash half way through so stopped the action. My girl was able to take his back and finish with a RNC. It was one of those great moments where they were right at the mats edge where I was watching down on all fours so I could look her in the eyes and keep telling at her "HES GONNA TAP! SQUEEEEEZE!" First time she's really come back like that, super proud.

There's another tourney a few hours away put on by Smoothcomp and it's there first time in our area as far as I know. Anyone know anything about them? Both kids are entered for go/no-gi so I'm looking forward to it.

I just did the Rome Open and the Euros No Gi. Had to go up a weight class. Got gold in the gi, default silver in the no gi in a super tight match (I got the sweep at the end but buzzer went before points, which is fair).

Silver in my first blue belt competition. Won two before losing tough final on refs decision. My opponent told me after the match that he's been a blue belt for three and a half years!

Congratulations Leigh @Leigh and SAJ @SAJ.... You guys are making me so jealous. I have been training my ass off, but haven't been able to get into a tournament. Usually I'm coaching my team in the good events and don't have a chance to get into them to compete

Disappointing outing at the Fuji Georgia State Championships today- got up at 04:00 and drove down to McDonough, GA- only to bounce out of the Expert gi bracket by losing my first match by bow and arrow choke. Had a number of “almosts- but not quites” in my no-gi matches, but wound up with the dreaded consolation third.
Right back on the horse next weekend, Newbreed has a tournament in our back yard (Spartanburg, SC), hopefully I can shake off this slump and bring back another belt to the Academy.

I'm genuinely not upset at losing. It's all learning and experience. I've bombed out of comps before and it can make you question yourself but it's often just making small adjustments to suddenly sky rocket your success.

Good luck next weekend :)

Silver today at NAGA. Really need to work on chaining sweeps, instead of just trying to shoot for one at a time, felt like my opponent shut my game down today, he won on 2 advantages.

I think NAGA should let blue belts go for 6 minutes too, 5 minute is too short

Silver in Gi and No-gi at Newbreed Spartanburg today. Felt much better with my performance, and beat a brown belt from a school across town on my way to silver in the advanced no-gi.
The gold/silver match in Gi was against a former teammate who wrestled at Clemson. 1:30 into the match my coach shouts “your not going to out wrestle him, pull guard”; that hurt my soul a little (I hate pullIng guard)- but it was true. We had a good laugh about that after the match.

I would agree. To have you young guys going 5 minutes is crazy. That's for us old guys! Great job!

It's the only way we improve.... Learn from the mistakes and grow. I'm proud of you going out there and killing it, I remember when you were the "I'm brand new to BJJ and looked for insight" guy, keep it up Brotha

We drove 4 hours last night to Vancouver as today is the CBJJF BC Provincials. My son is in gi and no gi but my girls is only competing in gi. We signed her up for no gi but there wasn't enough girls for a division it seems. There's another bigger tourney in Calgary in October were planning on going to as well and I'm hoping to enter myself song with kids kids. Wish us luck!
