Oh, for fuck sake
I have a steady high-pitched whine in my basement since yesterday. Can't identify a source inside or outside. Driving me nuts and I can't take work meetings down there. My neighbor checked out her basement and walked around her whole house, she can't hear it.
It gets louder in the general area of the electrical panel but it's not coming from it, and it also doesn't sound like it's coming from the stuff outside on the house.

Do you have a breaker panel? Kill them one by one, see when the noise goes away.
I had a similar thing on a train. There was a fucken buzz somewhere. I got bored looking and just signed it off and sent it away.

Power was out after work yesterday but I kept hearing a beep every 30 seconds or so. I could not figure out the source.
I stood in the middle of a room and waited for the sound and walked 6' towards the noise then I'd wait to hear it again. I used this triangulation approach until I found it.
It was a walkie talkie sitting on the charger but still had the switched turned to on. The beep was a low battery alert.
My ears are wank. How did it take so long to find?
I don't know if it's true. But I heard if you hear a ringing in the ears it means you lost a tone and won't hear it again
The noise was very distorted and I think it may have been bouncing off the walls (we have new-ish drywall in there) so even though it was loud I really couldn't tell it was that until got down right there with it. Also completely not the sound it's supposed to make - and that one is a hand me down from my older son so we've had it for at least 6 years.
Any updates?
I have surgery July 8th. Had a letter through the post today, then a lady has just called me to arrange it.
