It doesn't, I don't think. You're right. But they aren't going to recoup their investment on the pipeline any time soon. It's owned by Russia, not a private company. Probably a drop in the bucket, but if they were banking on the pipeline, which I'm sure they were or it wouldn't have been built, then not only is the pipeline a waste of money, but they are also being screwed out of future tax and logistics savings. Also, it's the first of many sanctions to come.But from what I'm reading this pipeline wasn't supposed to be active until the summer anyway. So this announcement has no immediate impact.

I saw that! Good start and I'm glad Germany decided to nut up, but yes, I think Russia anticipated this; NordStream 2 has been a political hot potato for a long time. They're in demographic collapse and probably figure (correctly) it's now or never.
I didn't realize it until you mentioned it, (yes they did annex Crimea to get Sevastopol, which was the most important part, however a federal city inside an antagonistic neighboring country isn't secure) However, Russian forces have Ukraine surrounded on 3 sides- Crimea, Russia and Belarus. I bet they move in in a pincer movement. Sure enough, that's what the intel showed from a few weeks ago.
The weird thing is they're going to the trouble to manufacture a pretext for war. They go to great lengths to make sure the west knows they don't care what they think. I wonder if it's Chinese influence? They're 180˚ the other direction. It's ALL appearances and pretext. The whole "peace-keeping force" charade is so weird.
