I'd like to see the mental health issue addressed more. We (the hospital) regularly turn patients away due to the "overt act" law. (You can't force treatment unless they commit an overt act.) Its kinda too late then.

When I went to high school it wasn't unusual to see long guns hanging in a rack in the back window of a truck in the parking lot. However, school shootings were almost unheard of. I think it's more a society issue. Video games and social media are raising our kids.

Maybe it's just me but in the majority of these cases, parents don't seem very involved with their kid's lives.
guy in locker next to me in HS had a duffel of rifles...got kicked from school

was 1992...he cleared out his parents and he was going to school one last time before running away....

I didn't think twice of it....then in 1994 a kid shot his family and some students a few miles away from my school

That is powerfully stupid. The greatest thing Trump has done is causing the left to lose their collective minds. I read an op-ed in the same Washington Post yesterday from a guy who said that the lack of evidence of Trump colluding with Russia is itself proof of the conspiracy. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blog...nk-area-51-meets-b613/?utm_term=.774b4c9b31b4

I haven't paid any attention to the shooting or this thread, but a quick question for you guys:

Post 9/11 the DHS introduced SOS (Secure Our Schools) where thousands of schools across the United States would get federal grants to purchase Security Cameras and other tools to secure their schools.

I've been to many many schools and the past 5 years schools around here I've noticed a drastic increase with just about ever school implementing these cameras ...doors are locked and you buzz in looking into a camera.

My only question is did Broward County High apply for this grant and did they have cameras rolling during the time of the shooting?

No idea on the former. On the latter, yes they had security footage in a fairly modern system. Could be reviewed in real time or after the fact.

https://www.realclearinvestigations...cipline_policy_and_the_parkland_shooting.html

Despite committing a string of arrestable offenses on campus before the Florida school shooting, Nikolas Cruz was able to escape the attention of law enforcement, pass a background check and purchase the weapon he used to slaughter three staff members and 14 fellow students because of Obama administration efforts to make school discipline more lenient.

Documents reviewed by RealClearInvestigations and interviews show that his school district in Florida's Broward County was in the vanguard of a strategy, adopted by more than 50 other major school districts nationwide, allowing thousands of troubled, often violent, students to commit crimes without legal consequence. The aim was to slow the "school-to-prison pipeline."

"He had a clean record, so alarm bells didn’t go off when they looked him up in the [NCIS] system," veteran FBI agent Michael Biasello told RCI. "He probably wouldn't have been able to buy the murder weapon if the school had referred him to law enforcement."

I didn't see this mentioned (might have missed it), the surveillance video the responders were watching was on a 26 min delay & they were unaware at the time.

while they were clearing the 2nd floor, thinking the shooter was there, he had already hit Subway & was at Walmart (IIRC).

True. But the system had the ability to watch in real time.

The sheriff's office tried to put this off as a fuck up by the school and/or its equipment. Well, the school was ruffled and had to make a public statement to protect their reputation but couldn't blatantly say it was a sheriff's dept fuck up.
But they adamantly said that equipment was fine and it was a break down in communication. They said responders were reviewing footage (rewinding had taken place) and then other responders entered. End statement.

But that leads me to believe the new responders (Barney Fife) assumed they were watching real time footage and began broadcasting his wearabouts.

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

lol

Like the "coincidence" of George Bush Sr being good buddies with the father of the guy who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan?... well sometimes Truth is stranger than fiction ....

Kinda like the "coincidence" George Bush Sr. had dinner with Osama Bin Laden's brother Shafiq Bin Laden at the Riz Carlton two days before 9/11 ....but sometimes Truth is stranger than fiction ....right?

New info says the sheriff told them not to enter until their body cams were on. They had no body cams... so they just sat there.
This is why I ask for legit sources and not biased horseshit agenda Fox News.

It turns out it was a captain - NOT the sheriff - who told them to secure a perimeter rather than go inside the building, something the sheriff says goes against training.

You were accusing the sheriff of negligence, so yes, it does.

What is it with conservatards being unable to admit when they were wrong?
I’m not a conservative. A superior officer told them not to enter. Me being wrong about the exact person changes nothing. The sheriff smeared his name enough as is.

Another shooting-
2 dead, gunman at large in Central Michigan University shooting
At least two people have been killed in a shooting in a Central Michigan University dorm, according to troopers with the Michigan State Police post in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

The university, in a tweet, said those killed were not students and "police believe the situation started from a domestic situation."

There were no other injuries and the suspect remains at large. The campus and most of Mount Pleasant are locked down
According to the city of Mt. Pleasant Twitter account, the suspect is a 19-year-old black male standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and wearing yellow mustard jeans and a blue hoodie. He's considered armed and dangerous.

The shooting happened near the 4th floor of Campbell Hall, a co-ed residence building. Classes are canceled and students have been told to shelter in place and avoid the area.

CM Life, the university's student newspaper, tweeted that they spoke to an officer on the scene and were told the alleged shooter is still on the premises.

Other students have also taken to posting on social media with updates.

We may as well have a TMMAC school shooting thread. Make it happen Splinty.
Unfortunately it sounds like we need one Splinty @Splinty:. :(
Teen arrested with rifle, ammo, mask in vehicle near Rowlett high school | Crime | Dallas News
A Garland teenager was arrested after he was discovered parked in the dark near a high school with a rifle and ammunition in his vehicle, police said.

Diego Horta
An officer patrolling behind Rowlett Community Center about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday spotted the teen sitting in a vehicle in a dark area. The community center is near Rowlett High School, where athletic events were going on, and the Bush Turnpike.

The officer went to find out what the teen was doing and noticed a loaded 9mm Hi-Point rifle near the teen in the vehicle, Rowlett police Detective Cruz Hernandez said.

Diego Horta, 17, also had reportedly illegal drugs, 100 rounds of ammunition, a club and a Halloween mask in the vehicle, Hernandez said.

Horta is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $1 million bail. He faces charges of unlawful carry of a weapon in a weapon-free zone and possession of a controlled substance.

Horta also may face a charge of possession of child pornography after police conducted a search warrant on his phone, Hernandez said.

Hernandez also commended the officer for doing a "great job of being aware of current trends and current school events that were in his beat."

"We will never know what we prevented, but we feel confident we prevented something bad that was going to occur," he said, noting that the investigation has not connected Horta to any planned crime. "The investigation clearly shows this had some red flags."

Rowlett police are working with the Dallas County district attorney's office and the FBI in the investigation.

Apparently this Michigan one was a domestic dispute and not a mass shooting.

“Phillip said he is angry with the officer but feels some sympathy for him.”

Fuck no. He’s a coward. You don’t take a special duty like that if you aren’t fully committed. Dude just wanted to be a simp with a badge trying to look cool for high school kids. This isn’t the first shooting at a high school. You know damn well the risks in taking such a job.

Fucking bitch.

They want the uniform, not the obligations.
