This deal was overwhelmingly favorable to the Taliban.
But at no point did the Taliban stop acting up except after this favorable peace of accord. Part of this negotiation strategy was to continue from a point of strength and making the whole war politically unpalatable. They continued bombings and then backed off after they got thousands released and secured their future.
They only ramped up the bombings again when Biden extended the deadline past May in an attempt to make it look like a coordinated and non-rushed leave. It could have been even worse if we had left in May, although it probably wouldn't have made an appreciable difference in Taliban takeover.
