A bat found his way into my chimney. Pretty exciting. I caught him with a fire poke tool because I'm a bad ass.

Dude was pissed! Look at those teeth!

Did some research on these, trying to identify it.
Pretty sure this is Lesser Celandine.

Non-native ground cover from Europe and West Asia.

Tomorrow it dies.
U going all native?

I like that

I used to run large scale planting crews and we would toss in a few hundred thousand or so native plants up and down the creeks and rivers in rural Oregon...native stuff doesn't need irrigation here and the wildlife much prefer it.

Apparently it's invasive and can take over, becoming very hard to control.
Best to kill it now before it pisses me off.

I'm trying to plant some bird seed around the lake when it drops in june/July..... Definitely do not want it to flood back up for duck season with all that shit growing..... It'd be terrrrrrrrrrible.

is it a small patch near the house...aka part of a landscape installation?

Looks nice actually, but I don't blame anybody for preferring native low maintenance species

might be able to just mow it and let it die from lack of water...but it kinda has succulent leaves so may be hard to kill that way

nice

If you want trees around it you can use willow stakes or sticks and/or cottonwood stakes sticks

We used to pound thousands of those in to reclaim lakes and wetlands to give shade for the fish and perches for the birds of prey.

Oh man, where I'm talking there's plenty of shade and trees growing over and out of the lake. It's all flood plan and back water.

that is always good, wildlife friendly

some people don't realize how easy it is to start a tree from jamming a stick in the ground

We had some jobs on barren islands in middle of lakes, even made some islands with dredging up and piling some soil and rocks.

anyways these barren islands and manmade islands got planted with stakes of willow and cottonwood and 10 years later are thriving with plants and wildlife...just needed a kickstart

I have 2 in my backyard that were started that way. Came from my father's house.

It has tubers. Shoots up in early spring and flowers like the picture. Then completely disappears underground by summer. Spreads quickly.

If it stayed green for the summer i'd consider keeping it and trying to control. But given what I've found out, it's getting a nice drink of glyphosate today.

It can quickly take over a forest...

And like many invasive species, they bloom early and choke out native plants.

It's also known as "Fig Buttercup" and "Brazen Hussy". For some reason, it's still being sold by some irresponsible nurseries.

Found this little guy when I was cleaning up a wood pile yesterday. Around 24" long. He took a snap at me I when I woke him up - but it was probably just because he was pissed I interupted his dream. I wonder what snakes dream about?

I have always sucked at snake identification, but I'm pretty sure it's a Garter snake.

Ferns getting ready to uncurl.

Gorse starting to bloom around the hills, shit pictures but I am now officially in this thread I suppose.

I spend a lot of time tramping around, never take pictures of anything.

He's not happy by the look of him alright.
Welcome to the thread.
What am I looking at in these pics?
Secret squiddle, right in the middle there, has his back to me in the first shot, turns around and has a look after I gave him a little whistle.

Photography ain't my forte I know
