Beto is popular here in Austin, and I assume that is at least somewhat true in the other metro areas. But it will be a tough race for him to win. I think Abbott is a dipshit, but I believe he generally has had an approval rating around 50% throughout his tenure. There are a lot of conservative repubs in TX to vote against Beto. TX hasn't had a democratic governor since the early to mid 90s (Ann Richards). I guess we'll see how voters feel about his handling of corona, border control, the state economy, etc. His stance on abortion has also been a big topic in the local elections, but I suspect opinions of that vary once you get outside of Austin.
