Dr Seuss wasn't censorship mate. It was a company deciding that it was no longer a good idea to publish the blatantly racist shit it was publishing.Completely agree with your second paragraph - you nailed it.
The issue I have with Ryan’s speech is that he took a position of self-entitled infallibility with opinions presented as facts. He bashed the Republicans over the $15 minimum wage as if everyone agrees that is the absolute right thing to do for society when it doesn’t account for the impact to small businesses, costs being passed onto the consumer, and jobs being eliminated in favor of automation. He lashes out against the Dr. Seuss ban as if everyone should be ok with censorship and cancel culture sweeping that matter under the rug. His partisan positions were as clear as his passion but unfortunately not everyone agrees that the only way to unify is for everyone to see things his way.
Let Muh kids learn da racisms!!Dr Seuss wasn't censorship mate. It was a company deciding that it was no longer a good idea to publish the blatantly racist shit it was publishing.
It's a completely disingenuous culture war distraction from real economic issues, just as Ryan was saying.
Now it is possible that they were just being proactive and doing it instead of waiting to be cancelled but... Isn't that kind of what we want? People to talk about things. And people to learn from it. And people to make changes on their own if they see fit.Dr Seuss wasn't censorship mate. Let's say Dr Seuss wrote a book called 'The dead bitch in the watery ditch', would they still be selling it? Would these muppets be yelling 'This is an outrage! Dr Seuss must be allowed to push rape and murder fantasies onto the public'.Now it is possible that they were just being proactive and doing it instead of waiting to be cancelled but... These are salient and useful points. I want the minimum wage to increase as much as anyone, but I'm not sure tying it to budget reconciliation at a time when businesses are trying to crawl out of the mud is the best timing. Though passage could have been phased in like it usually is over the course of a year and offset by tax credits and other stimulus. Businesses did a lot better via PPP than workers did via 3 checks. Regarding Dr. Seuss, it's important to note the company that publishes the books made the change themselves and announced it, not any "cancel culture" boogeyman that the GOP has been using to drive up donations.Completely agree with your second paragraph - you nailed it.

The grandstanding on the floor from either side is usually only about getting into the congressional record for posterity and into highlights for the reelection sizzle reel.
You've been harping about this pretty loudly for a while now, so I went and did 30 seconds of research:When is the State of the Union address?
There's a lot going on. An update from our leader would be nice.
That and he doesn't know who he is half the time. You've been harping about this pretty loudly for a while now, so I went and did 30 seconds of research:
2017 - No SOTU address
2009 - No SOTU address
What do those years have in common?
Oh just the fact that the President has only been in office for a month so it makes ZERO FUCKING SENSE for him to give an update on the state of the nation.
I guess he found some things in there he didn't think were good for the country. Just a guess.Tweets this:

And then votes NO on the bill.
