Seems like Mein got cocky and let his guard down just a bit. Learning lesson.
I think that is downplaying the work Alves did to get Mein with his back to the cage so he couldn't use his movement like he did in the first. he herded him into that power body strike, adding Mein's movement to the power of his kick. It was a great combo and paid off big.

Mighty Mouse had good looking blonde sitting with him. Funny that shes probably taller than he is.
I didn't see her on the broadcast but it was probably his wife. She is cute.

He actually had his guard up and that's how Thiago got to him. When he lifted his hands Thiago kicked right under his elbows into his solar plexus. Perfect shot.

I think your assessment is spot on Zeph.

No, I disagree. Alves may not have done as much in the first and he definitely lost the first, but what he did do joe didn't mention because he was to busy fellating mein.
I hate when Rogan does that. I always hope the judges can't hear Joe and be influenced by his bias.

Oh I don't disagree, but you have to question if that would have happened if Mein hadn't gotten cocky. The somersault, etc. He just looked like he got too relaxed there to start the 2nd.

Mein was trying to be fancy rather than sticking with what was working. He knows it too you could see it on his face after Herb called it.

Mein was looking sensational. What do you want Joe to say, 'OOOHHH LOOK AT THAT ALVES PUNCH WHICH JUST FELL SHORT!!!'?

However, I do get what you are saying and Joe does fall into that trap sometimes. I think a 3rd person in the booth, who is knowledgeable about the sport(Goldie isn't), would help solve the problem. That way the commentating could be more of a conversation, rather than a monolog.

Fuck I missed the Alves fight

What happened
Mein put it ON him in the first, landing a ton of clean bombs. Alves comes out in the second and lands a brutal body kick and swarmed him for the finish.

What happened
Mein was beating him up pretty good but at one point Thiago kicked him in the solar plexus and Mein went down. Thiago finished him there.

Boetsch steals the round with that last engagement. Leites hands are very reminiscent of how Aldo throws faints. Interesting fight so far.

I hear ya brother, you're not wrong. It's frustrating to me when he doesn't acknowledge there is another fighter in the cage. I think a proper commentator can also bring to light what the other guy needs to do to turn things around. Alves did land a few shots with zero recognition from the booth.
