As a Bellator fighter, and a hardcore MMA fan for 15 years, I love some of the things they are doing, and the direction they are headed. To be honest, feel like they care about the fighters in a different, and sincere way.
Thanks for sharing Big Pygmy. I have never heard one fighter say anything negative about Scott Coker. Not one. Think about that for a minute. What I have heard however is, fighters in the UFC say that they would go back and work for him in a heartbeat, if they weren't under contract. It speaks volumes.

And those contracts are up sooner or later...

So, it's OK to consistently fuck people over because the UFC isn't perfect and "neither is anybody else"?

By that line of reasoning, I should be able to kill 1.43 people per 100.000 per year in Canada because it isn't that bad? And I shouldn't be subject to the laws that already exist (i.e. anti-trust and homicide).

Canada's homicide rate drops to lowest level since 1966

I'm not trying to equate what Zuffa's monopoly does to murder, rather, I'm trying to point out that because something is worse doesn't make everything else good by default.
Calm down, princess. I didn't say anything was right or wrong. I'm saying the amount of hate the UFC gets is not proportional to the amount other organizations get for doing the same things. By not highlighting the shady business practices of these other companies they are allowed to continue unabated. The UFC on the other is kept under a microscope.

But unfortunately working for Coker involves working for a faceless media giant called Viacom that only views MMA as just another money making venture among many money making ventures. If eating shit was a profitable business Viacom would make a show based around it. That's how much integrity they have,

Well, duchess, the UFC willfully put themselves under the microscope by claiming that they are "the Superbowl of MMA". If you want to run your mouth like that, people are going to take notice.

And, despite your grade-school ad hominem attack, nothing you've said invalidates anything that I've said.

No darlin, they're under the microscope because they're the face of MMA.

All things considered: Viacom's supporting Bellator financially. They're giving them exclusive media platforms. And they're allowing Coker to operate the business how he sits fit (and his track records pretty good). I dont see any of these things as a negative. And if I'm a fighter, I'm looking at Bellator as a viable option. Disagree?

As opposed to working for highly reputable and oozing with integrity casino owners...

Viacom had a revenue of $13.72 Billion last year. Why isn't Bellator already bigger than the UFC?

lmao yea ok. Viacom doesn't even let Bellator keep sponsorship money. Instead they take the money and divert to their other business ventures.
I know you're referencing an article from a while back...but to be fair, we really don't know anything about the inner working of their relationship and/or their financials. All we can do is take Scott Coker at face value, because history says he's a pretty genuine individual. And if you listen to him, Viacom appears to be invested in Bellator MMA for the long term. He has the full support of Viacom & Spike reps. HE knows how to build a sustainable MMA organization. Fighters enjoy working for him That takes me back to him only needing time.

I can see Coker getting frustrated and leaving Bellator. I would bet Coker looks at the UFC and wonders why his company and his fighters aren't as popular when he has the backing of a global media giant. Bellator should be crushing the UFC. When these UFC fighters' contracts run out Bellator should be rushing in flashing millions in their face but instead they sign only the cast offs and make freak show fights like Kimbo vs. Ken Shamrock.

I like the UFC because it has the best fighters. If Bellator had the best fighters I would be watching them.

I think he's a pretty intelligent guy w/ a good perspective on things, and he knows the UFC got a 15 year head start. He's proven that he's very good at finding and developing talent. Looking back on Strikeforce's roster and it's like damn. He's signing guys like Pico, Ruth, Fortune. He'll find and develop more guys like them. He's also in a very good position to sign some free agents w/ the Reebok debacle. I think he's in it for the long haul.

See, that's where we disagree. I want that to happen, I just don't think we'll see it get to that point.

They first need to get to Strikeforce's level, which won't be easy considering all the notable Strikeforce guys are now in the UFC, and many of them are champs or championship contenders, making a return to Coker less likely.

I think it could take 5 years just to get this promotion on the level of prime Strikeforce - UNLESS this lawsuit by the fighters really forces change to the extent Zuffa can't lock down the elite fighters at every weight class. If that happens, then yes, your vision is definitely possible, but we're talking about game-changing judgments that essentially break the Zuffa monopsony. I think that's what we all want, but I bet all this lawsuit will do is simply make Zuffa more crafty at protecting their monopsony. They'll make some tweaks to appease some folks, then pretty much go back to what they were doing before.
I won't bash anyone for opposing my point of view, for the most part, and giving me theirs in a resptable way.

One thing we can agree on is that it'll take some time for Coker to do with bellator what he did with Strikeforce.
If you have been reading around, you would have notice some posters already dismissing Coker, almost as if they truly expected him to build an empire in a years time. It will take some more years to become as prominent as Strikeforce was.

You argue that Coker needs to get his Strikeforce guys to get on the old sf level. I don't agree with that. Of course it would help, but Let's not forget that Coker discovered and bred most of these Strikeforce fighters who are ruling in the UFC. If he did it once, he can do it again. The man truly has an eye for talent.

What Coker is doing now is basically a repeat of what he did with Strikeforce. Buy up some big name fighters(and use the ones they have) to draw in the ratings... then: hendo, overeem, fedor ect... Now: kimbo, shamrock, Tito, ect.. while he scouts talent and builds for the future. pico, Ruth, fortune. rumor also has it that bellator is bidding hard for bendo, and Overeem. Also, Coker aims for fights why can draw a solid hometown crowd, primarily in california( his backyard).

As I've stated before, I don't like some of the freakshows that Coker has put on, but I see why he does it. With these fights, he can boost ratings, draw bigger audiences, and potentially lure bigger sponsors. To put it simply, all that equates to more $$$$. With more money, Coker can then turn around and attempt to attract bigger more relevant names, promote the names he has, and increase the amount of cards they out on. All this could possible put him on a bigger platform. Coker had Strikeforce on a premium channel and somehow got them on network television. With bellator, he's already on cable tv, which means much more eyeballs than showtime.

Coker is also willing to co promote. Which allows for even more eyeballs on his product. He has made connections with oktagon, road, and rizin.

Bellator has a bigger platform than Strikeforce did. And with Coker leading the charge, I can see them growing exponentially in the next 2-3 years.

I'm not doubting Coker.
