Yeah, in 393 more games and 1721 more plate apprarances, Smith managed 120 more hits than Larkin.

Larkin .295 BA vs Smith's. 262
Larkin 198 HR vs Smith's 28
Larkin 441 DBL vs Smith's 402

Smith did edge him out in fielding percentage by .003 (.978 to .975)

But man, Ozzie had those wicked backflips.

Every time I think about the Cardinals back then I think about Willie McGee's mug and laugh.

Is it really Ozzies fault he was more durable that Larkin?

And by Willie McGee do you me 1985 NL MVP and 2 time NL batting champ Willie McGee?

Yeah. He had a couple good years. Literally. Two good years.

Although even as a rookie he looked like he was playing on two bad knees so any type of success is impressive.

Has anyone ever investigated the possibility of Ozzie Smith's steroid use during the 1985 season? He increased his HR totals by 500% from the previous year. It's hard to believe he did that naturally.

Over the course of his 19 year career, 21% of his HRs were hit in 1985.

I'm not saying he did it. I'm just saying...

I'm sure he was just taking them to tighten up the rotation on his backflip.

The astronomical increase in power was likely an unintended consequence.

The percentages are close. In 1996 Anderson increased his HR total by 213% over the previous season.

And that single season represented 24% of the HRs for his entire 15 year career.

Anderson likely learned about juicing during his 41 game stint in Boston in 1988.
