Props to ABC for taking the fight. I like Dern, but must root for ABC now. & 7 pounds is a joke.

They wouldn't attempt a fighter to make the cut as he was too far out fight week iirc
I remember they moved a fight to 135 even though one fighter made the 125 limit, the commission ruled that he was cutting too much weight to make FLW and that justified them doing the fight at 135. (after the other guy was ruled as likely to miss weight)

Alex Perez vs Carls John de Tomas.

Perez was told to accept it and fight or not get paid. Dern missing weight by 7lbs explains why the UFC rung her midweek voicing concerns

I'm sure a fight was cancelled withing the last couple of months because the comission would not even let someone attempt the cut when they showed up fight week. Certain of it. It's on the tip of my tippy tongue

I thought Cooper looked like the bigger woman at the face offs. Definitely more muscle mass, bigger arms, broader shoulders.

It's like Dern didn't even try to make weight.

I'm actually curious if the commission will even let the fight go ahead, don't the fighters have to be within 5 lbs of each other? (excluding HW's)

I know it's been an issue in the past but I just can't remember which fight it affected. Basically the other fighter had restrictions on the weight he could rehydrate too. I'm thinking Jim Miller vs Thiago Alves......
That's one of those weird subjective rules where it varies state to state/commission to commission. NY definitely has the 5lb rule.

I doubt that CABMMA has anything like it though.

Mackenzie do bronx Dern
Find a photo of Dern eating anywhere anytime, post in the internet and put a caption saying it was a couple days ago. Everybody will go crazy. Because you can only post pictures on social media that were taken within a few days of the time of posting.

Gilbert Burns and Olivier Aubin-Mercier ?

If the fighter is over the 8-percent mark of their target weight, then the UFC would, at minimum, follow that fighters weight cut throughout fight week, including monitoring the fighters vitals. The fighter can also be removed from the bout if it is considered to be too risky if the fighter is allowed to continue cutting weight, which is apparently what happened in Burns’ case.

Dern wasn't far off that 8% at the weigh-ins let alone fight week.

116 / 100 x 8 = 9.28

that was so wrong from a legal standpoint but so fair from a real life standpoint.

it's a shame a system like that couldn't ever be applied.
Vitor was a former HW and roider, but I agree justice was served, I just wasn't happy about who was serving it.

It's almost as if Crouch was on to something when he booted her from his gym for being too fucking lazy.

Of course Cooper took the fight. Dern did her a favor. It's not like she missed weight by being too tall or muscular.

I'm glad the fight is still happening and props to ABC for taking it, but I kind of think there should be a rule that if someone misses weight by 5lbs or more, the fight is automatically called off, because that's just ridiculous.

In this instance, I don't think it's going to be that big a deal for ABC because Dern's extra weight looks to be more fat than anything else. But remember Rumble Johnson missed weight by 6lbs vs Yoshida and when they entered the cage it looked like a 2 weight division difference between the two, and it ended up being a dangerous massacre.

"If (Dern had weighed in at) the next division, we wouldn’t allow the fight. She was 123, so she barely made it (under flyweight).”

Not a bad policy imo and the guy didn't sound like he was bullshitting.

Plus it's not like it's the main event and they would lose a lot of money if the fight was canceled.

Didn't Gabi garcia miss weight by a load vs that old lady not long back? I forget how much it was.

What's the biggest weight miss that a fight went ahead?

According to the CABMMA guy, they wouldn't have allowed the fight to happen if Dern had been 9 pounds over.

I agree 5 pounds should be the maximum but the logic behind allowing this fight isn't horrible.

so much consistency shown by these commissions lol

the fight should've been in doubt before fight week according to the 8% rule that other commission used for Burns vs Mercier, she was only 1.28lbs away from being over that at the weigh-ins (as I mentioned earlier) which is beyond ridiculous. If we're using that 8% just for weigh-ins then their statement would be correct I guess.

She was born and grew up in Arizona and now lives full-time in California.

I've met tons of people from Arizona and California.

None of them talk like that.
I know a few people of Russian decent who were born in the states, and grew up here that have an accent because Russian was spoke exclusively in their house. It's definitely possible to develope an accent if you grow up like that.
