b00ts @b00ts also there's a Florida law that allows a homeowner to humanely kill any invasive species on his property. You don't have anything like this in Louisiana?

Oh and before you ask "humanely kill" means to kill with one blow/strike (so as to avoid suffering), can be from a stick/club or a pellet gun

Some asshole near my dad’s house had some escape. They ended up taking residence in the nearby woods and would come near the house sometimes. That sound is annoying as shit. The wildlife and fisheries department said they really couldn’t do anything about them since they aren’t harmful to local residents or livestock.
I haven’t heard it, yet.
It’s the only one we’ve seen. There’s some fancy ass houses behind us, with huge properties. Pretty sure it’s from there.

I'm surprised you don't get more of the shit we get in terms of invasive species. Your ecosystems are almost identical to ours (humid swamps)
I don’t think they would like the freeze we get every year. While we have similar climate, LA usually freezes a couple times a winter whereas South FL doesn’t.

We also don’t have assholes letting exotic pets loose in the wild. I believe the Atchafalya River Basin near me is larger than the Everglades, but it has less species due to that. Still, you hear stories of guys seeing pythons and such out there. Only weird shit I’ve ever seen was a bull shark.

Thought of that after I posted it. One freeze would wipe out every green iguana down here

Yea we have that for the nutria rat, coyotes, hogs, etc. Nutria are literally eating away our wetlands, so the state will pay $5/pelt.

Yea, we had three legit snow storms last winter which I’m not sure has ever happened. We usually get one every few years or so, but three was crazy and it stuck to the ground too.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I'm out. See you fucks on Tuesday.

I left my guy alone. I was taught to just let nature be. He was pretty close to our base camp though and we could hear it yelping right before we went to bed. If you have ever heard that, you know it's a pretty sad sound. A baby calling for it's mother.

It's not uncommon for mama deer to leave their fawns alone for a bit. Fawns have virtually no scent and are decently camouflaged with their spots - so mama deer stays away so she doesn't attract predators to the fawn's area. Of course that plan is shot to shit when the fawn is calling out. My assumption is the mama dear was skittish because she knew we were around. My hope is she returned at night.

I thought of you when I saw a mockingbird nest inside a tree hollow last week. One of the mockingbird parents was perched on the edge if the hollow, staring at me with eyes that said "go ahead and try to fuck with my nest, bitch".

I walked an extra 50 steps to avoid getting anywhere close...

I just finished assembling my new canoe. It's nothing fancy, just a Pelican. I got sick of loading my big, heavy, bulky 14 foot aluminum rowboat on my truck by myself, so this should have me on and off the water quickly and safely. I plan on taking her on her maiden voyage tomorrow to my favorite fishing lake.

Eventually I'll be building a side-mount for my electric motor and adding a bunch of other modifications, but for now I just want to get on the water. The big momma pike may still be in shallow due to the late spring and I'd love to get hauled around the lake by a 20+ LBer. :)

Have a wonderful weekend, folks!

I would give alot to have invasive peacocks where I live. Birds are great.
