Leftists in the U.S. seem to have more free time on their hands from how I observe it from the outside.
I've noticed this as well. It's no surprise that many of them desperately want the socialist nanny state.

Probably the best way to make Antifa scatter would be to throw a stack of job applications at them.

I dunno, man.

You know a lot of people are pushing for a Universal Basic Income to take hold in this country. I've wondered, if everybody was just given, say, $20,000 a year for doing nothing, what effect would that have on the nation's productivity?

How many would rather just live on that $20,000 and chill than hold down a job in order to have a higher (material) standard of living?

I know a lot of people would, I still like the idea though. It'd be better than the system that Sweden is running that's for sure. We've got familes with half a dozen kids clearing a doctor's salary in welfare. Hell, my cousin is 34 like me and hasn't had a real job in his life, that shit wouldn't fly in most countries.

I won't deny that the thought of knowing I'll at least have basic financial security no matter what is appealing. Even as someone who leans right, I think that we need to figure out some issues like healthcare, education and basic financial security for America's citizens. I don't know what the solution is--at all--but we need to work on it.

Nevertheless, the thought of America just turning into a nation of slackers who are chilling and smoking their bongs and playing their Xboxes while they subsist from month to month on their government money is not an appealing one.

I have always considered myself a leftist, however the goal posts have moved from worker's right to an idea of equal outcome regardless of merit and I can't get behind that.

However with changes in demographics the trust in government has eroded. Especially in Sweden which is seeing the establishment of a permanent lower class. With modern leftists for some reason cheering this development on.
I'm not read up enough to get into a long discussion about it, but the impression that I get is that unchecked immigration has ravaged much of Europe and many of the native-born are feeling like strangers in their own countries.

RT even produced a documentary on the Swedish situation. Trailer:

I lived in the most violent area of Stockholm for about 7 years. Most practising Muslims don't cause any trouble, it's the disenfranchised second generation taking their cues from the worst parts of American culture that are the real problem. Up until recent years 1st generation immigrants didn't cause trouble, other than depleting Sweden financially.

Out of curiosity, why were you in Stockholm? And why did you live in such an area?
I moved out at 16 and lived in the cheapest place I could. It never bothered me but none of my Swedish friends ever came to visit. I have always gotten along fine at the bottom of society, but I know a lot of people preaching it wouldn't last an hour.

So you were born in Sweden? Where are you now?

I was born in Sweden, moved to NYC when I was 4. Moved back for university and military service at 16. Been in Thailand for 8 years now.
Interesting. So you're all over.

I'm guessing then you hold Swedish citizenship, or dual-citizenship?

Nominally I hold a Swedish citizenship, getting a Thai citizenship isn't easy. I'd make the trade for sure.
Interesting.

I would like to visit Sweden. Do I need to be able to speak the language to get around there? Watching the documentary I posted above, it seems most people speak English. Are Swedes welcoming to Americans?

You'll be fine with English, I'd advise you to stay in the nice areas though. Meaning the inner cities, a Namibian friend of mine used to score in my old neighborhood and he only got robbed 2 times, for a white outsider it's not safe.

Makes sense.

But the native Swedes are welcoming to Americans? I just ask because it seems there is always so much anti-American sentiment around the world at any given time, even in Europe, which sucks because they are our allies.

Americans are not well liked, the leftists will hate you for supporting Israel among other things and nationalists will despise you for flooding Europe with migrants. Not realizing your average American hardly made those calls.

Norway, Finland and Denmark are good.
That's interesting.

Why would those countries be friendlier to Americans than Sweden? Considering it is all Scandinavia (maybe not Finland) I would figure would all be the same.
