My main thought is that Twitter have told everyone to work from home and Silicon Valley with the China connection.

It took Apple a long time to say to employees that if they'd just travelled back from the China plants/offices to not go into the US offices. Ya think?
my company stopped travel in/out of China before Christmas, extended the ban to Korea, Malaysia, etc around Lunar New Year.
Now policy is that if you travel from SE Asia, you're supposed to self-quarantine (WFH) for two weeks.
Any travel to/from China at this point requires approval from Executive Leadership Team (basically the Board of Directors).

But I contrast that with the two couples in my dad's retirement community who just got back from 2 weeks in S Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam...supposedly they were going to self-quarantine for a couple weeks when they got back, but one of the couples was down at the pickleball court for a couple hours the other night...after being back for ~ 3 days.

I used to think they were a really nice couple. Now I think they're assholes.

That's a good policy. All companies should have done the same.

How old are you to be hanging out at a pickleball court? Also, what's pickleball?

Selfish assholes. I don't care how old you are, that is so out of order considering the majority of deaths have been with elderly people. A retirement community is going to be a hot bed for it.

I'm lucky that I got my SE Asia trip done with in December and the UK in January. I load myself full of vitamins before getting on a long haul flight anyway, sod travelling now.

Put on a mask and short away.

Panic = Profit
I'm just kidding. The only impact it will have for me is if they start quarantine if it gets to brugges. If work stops I don't get paid. I've had about every shot possible a few times. If it gets me I'm gonna spread it, just because I'm a cunt. If I go we all do.

I'm a flippin dullard for believing everything ABC News are shoving down my throat. They're saying that the virus particles are so tiny that wearing a mask is useless because it will still get through. I'm not buying masks, but I'm not buying that it isn't going to reduce the risk either.

Don't go to Lion Market on Tully Road, it was depressing as hell last week, I can imagine it being even worse this week. So many people in masks.

One of my favourite stores, I feel a bit lost just going to Safeway.
i don't like Chinese food or markets, never go to Lion. I even stay away from Korean markets these days. I love Mitsuwa though, bit expensive but their ramen and green tea ice cream is fire~

should go on a date with your hubby

It's a bad tweet but well patients wearing mask is not only a bad use of resources, usually it just spreads disease as people touch their face more often. This is well studied and is why we suggest mask for sick people but not well people. exceptions to this rule would be if you're stuck being right next to a sick person for a while. Like maybe a sick person in your house that you're tending to or being stuck on transport with somebody who is sick and not wearing a mask. But the answer there is the sick person should be wearing the mask.
I see. But besides the wasted resources, it still protects more than it doesn't?

Weirdly we think not. none unless you're going to actively be next to the sick person for an extended period And they are not wearing a mask.
And studies of people who are well wearing a mask, we actually see more transmission and they get sick more. We think this is because they fiddle with the mask and touch their face more often. In a well person the mask will get wet pretty quickly from your breath moisture and it's not doing very much as a barrier. The main usefulness of a mask is to prevent the spread of respiratory droplets from the sick person.

All of this is accurate for a disease that is spread by respiratory droplets like most cold viruses like this Corona virus.

This is not true for airborne diseases like tuberculosis where you would want to be wearing a fitted mask like an n95. For airborne diseases well people need to be wearing mask of a special type because you can get the disease by just breathing the same room air.

Allergies kicking up in this valley right now.

Easy to confuse symptoms right now, I am a bit sniffly in the AM and slightly rough throat...but that is somewhat common for me this time of year because I inhale certain tree pollens from rare trees(aka not from this area/region) that I do some work on.

Will keep y'all posted.

I will try, the throat thing comes and goes...possibly due to pollen exposure.

I think it has been everywhere for months already, that is my gut feeling on it.

I think we all should be the most concerned with Filthy @Filthy. This is a virus that kills old people, and his social club centers around the pickleball courts of his retirement home.

Filthy, please keep us updated on your status.
