schadenfreude is tacky and says more about you than anything.
"A 30-year-old patient has died from Covid-19 at a hospital in Texas after attending a so-called 'Covid Party', according to healthcare officials."

Patient wishes to contract Covid, does so, and me referring to it as 'Darwinism' is schadenfreude.

Okay.

Everyone sees you gloating over people dying. It's shitty.

Okay, I agree actually.
Not very spiritual.

I blame the vodka red bulls and Stella Artois I am consuming at the fights.

I will sober up tomorrow and cleanse my system.

Have a goodnight everyone.
Mask up and stay safe.

Calm down mete. If you go to a literal covid bug chasing party, putting everyone else at risk for no reason other than your own callous disregard for other people's safety, then you deserve to die. And it is darkly funny.

I made fun of coronavirus at the start of all this too. I'm not a spastic who endangered other people, but if it ends up killing me, I still deserve to be mocked.

Yeah, that's a pretty low bar for antisocial behavior. I hope you don't die.

Maybe it makes sense for a US citizen to act like someone going to a bug chasing party is no big deal because your country gave up trying to fight covid from the beginning.

But I live in a city where we had cases down to almost 0 and now we have as many cases as all of Italy, and all it took was a couple of fuck ups. The economic catastrophe the secondary lockdown is going to cause will ruin many people's lives.

We aren't talking about some dipshit who went to a beach. We are talking about willful and deliberate disregard and endangerment of other human lives. To act like it is callous for saying someone deserves what they get if they go to a bug chasing party is frankly ridiculous.

Actually we were talking about a string of posts including gloating about a guy not wearing a mask at a store going to die.

You're catching the tail end and then referenced you mocking online as another one that would be funny to die.

Fair enough. I have had about 47 beers. It seemed to me that you were just weirdly white knighting bug chasers but you are right that I didn't read the whole thing and perhaps that was just the 47-beer thing kicking in.

So in summary, my thoughts on this situation are that Volkanovski won rounds 3, 4 and 5.

To be clear covid parties are stupid and people that go to them are complete idiots.

My issue is taking overt glee in the deaths of everybody who's not following the rules perfectly, like Hauler @Hauler not wearing his mask lol. But I'll get one sympathetic step farther than that And I don't necessarily expect you to follow me on this one, but maybe meet me in the middle. There is so much misinformation and poor messaging that when somebody isn't wearing a mask or thinks they're in their 20s or 30s so maybe it would be better if I just hurry up and catch this stuff, some of that is on us as a system in a society. We should be a bit sympathetic if not empathetic to the reflection of our own failures on that.

And don't get me wrong, I love morbid irony as much as anybody. There was a guy in Southeast Texas whose last words were "fuck that alligator" then he jumped in and the alligator ate him. That is darkly funny. But that is on the very extreme spectrum and if it was happening over and over or somebody was lumping that in with a number of vague gradients related to alligators it would become a whole lot less funny that people were dying.

Seems reasonable.

The Alligator guy should have come with me on a crocodile sightseeing tour I went on in northern Australia. We saw absolutely no crocodiles - not even the bushes some desperate person thought was a crocodile was in fact a crocodile - and the tour guide kept insisting 'I swear there are normally crocodiles here'. But he still took all of our money. Me and Alligator man could have said 'fuck these crocodiles', had a swim and been just fine.

Full disclosure:

I'm wearing a mask in public places. Not because I think they help all that much - if at all - but good lord some people lose their shit if you are maskless now that it's actually a "law".

My irritation level of wearing a mask is nowhere near that of having to deal with the sections of society who believe that if you don't mask up you are literally attempting to kill people.

Wearing a mask is a way to keep those people from talking to me. A small price to pay. One day I will find my hill to die on, but this isn't it.

Yep. Basically this.

I don't want those idiots to die. I do hope that they're the ones that end up in hospitals for a month and have to be on a ventilator so that hopefully it will scare some of them and their idiot friends and family. But death is extreme.

I'd save that for someone that has it and is willfully spreading it and claiming that you can't stop them because Merica!

Ohio lost 4 people to Covid yesterday

That's .000034217% of the state's population gone in the blink of an eye.

Legit question.

NY was one of the original out-of-control hot spots in the nation when this whole thing kicked off. They had plenty of protesting in late May / early June, but no measurable uptick occurred.

Is this an example of herd immunity?

Not sure. But definitely an example of "if you can die easily from this, you already did" in NYC. Also possible outdoor protesting is not as dangerous as other activities. We seem considerable more risk in indoor recirculation which is where increasing ventilation comes in.

What's the trend?

We did 100 but on average that's another 1000 hospitalized which is terrible as well.
