I thought New Zealand was tropical
It's a little warm today. Nothing like people have been dealing with, pretty tolerable.
It is up north, sort of. I'm in the south. If I drive to the beach 20 minutes away from where I'm sitting and start swimming south, I'm finding nothing but cold ocean until I hit Antarctica.

All those counties cover a 250-mile radius. I'm not even staying inside, much less bringing my patio furniture in.
Last week the tornado sirens were blasting, I felt a little nervous, but looked outside and someone was walking their dogs like any other rainy day.
I would definitely stay inside if it were a more serious warning. But I know what you mean. Every time there's a hurricane here, the local news will be out at the beach to broadcast how bad the storm is as it rolls in. And literally every time, you see fuckwits like @Cody out there swimming or surfing at the height of the worst conditions.
I thought the local news meteorologist was a bit too giddy given the severity of the storms, and told people to stay in shelter unless they thought they could get an awesome picture to send along.
