@John Lee Pettimore : <chants it over again like it's true>
you still struggle to demonstrate a way in which Trump was worse than Biden, and you're doing some irrespective of the fact that Biden has been in office 6 months. Give the man time.
that's still an ad hominem, albeit back-handed.
you're confusing someone who was brought up not caring what the plebes think with someone who was. FWIW - Bill Clinton was "far and away" the most personally corrupt president in our lifetimes. When you sell ICBM technology to the Chinese, you're Evil. Don't get me started on Bill Clinton and crack cocaine. They're only different in how up front they are with their self-interest serving decisions. Trump was born in to the elite privilege, he understands that no matter how much he fucks the common man he'll still be part of The Club. It's that simple. But let's be honest, what's more corrupt - putting your SIL in charge of a back-channel communication for graft, or packing the SCOTUS to give you carte' blanche to consolidate power? And we're talking about relative difference - both are/were going to tear up Sec 270, that's a kind of corruption that REALLY matters. So relative to the objective standard of how they advance the cause of the voter over their own interest, their corruption is same-same.
"the interests of the voters" knowable and expressed through a representative system where each vote counts equally. But Jeff Bezos is getting $10B contracts to run the DoD computers, so his vote counts a lot more than mine. And both Trump and Biden will back-band to blow Bezos. I'll reiterate again that nothing was going to happen at the Capital, it was an much an assault on democracy as egging an M1A1 Abrams. What will destroy democracy is creating 2nd class citizens, elevating the police and state actors, lowering bureaucratic accountability, etc. Both guys do that equally hard, because their interests are aligned with the wealthy/political class - not with the voter.
My complaint is that the system is self-sustaining, and people who pretend that there's a meaningful difference (relative to the interests of the voter) are the root of the issue. They are the true "useful idiots" who parade around like their accomplishing something by switching the face on the old corrupt white guy who rambles incoherently into a microphone to sycophantic applause.
that's not a thought experiment, neither is electable in modern politics. Neither would be a R or D, and neither would have a chance of being on the debate stage past the 2nd debate.
so yeah, not much changes.
