tl;dr = i dont do vidz. too old for that. but yes, i will do vids on The Wheel of Time :p

i watched the episodes thursday. slept from 11pm to 1am Friday and was up all day yesterday. i actually already finished two videos, but i decided not to publish either of them due to the negative post-prod effects on the audio-quality as well as the content itself being subpar (my scripts were rambling)

so i decided it was better to throw those 19 hours of work in the trash*

i rewrote a new "recap" (breakdown) script last night before bed then recorded it this morning

finished the first round of the visuals about an hour ago. and right now i'm rendering it for the 3rd time after tweaking (its 72.1% done). fingers-crossed, this is the final version of an episode 1 video =))) (im doing all three episodes separately)

I know (and respect) you don't use this forum for self-publicity, but please tell us when they are up, I'm gonna throw a watch for sure.

hahah dude. i thought i was done. as i was watching this third and "final" rendition of the new recap, i realized that i spoiled something huge accidentally

you've read the whole series right? if so, you can read the hidden spoiler thing

in the books, the seer says "he" in terms of the dragon being reborn. the show wants to tease Egwene as a possibility for "the dragon reborn" so they specifically had Moiraine open the show by saying that they are unsure if the Dragon was reborn as a boy or a girl.

and i accidentally used a screenshot of the "new spring" (wheel of time prequel) where the seer yells out "he is born again!"

hahah, so that would've spoiled the fact that its not Egwene

rendering fourth and final version right now. hopefully

just a heads up, this is not game of thrones. its high fantasy

episode 1 moves fast. slows down a little in 2 and 3 (in a good way, supposedly)
You sound like someone talking about weed. This ain’t yo granddaddy’s Mary Jane fantasy series; this dat chronic fantasy shit. Buckle up because it’s gonna hit you hard before it chills out.

it was such a poorly written comment, and i knew it. but i was burnt out and had to go to bed

i was trying to say that a lot of people complained about the pacing being to fast in the first episode. but the consensus is that ep 2 is better than ep 1 and ep 3 is better than ep 2

Not at all! I knew what you were getting at and appreciate the heads up. I was just messing around because I know you are a good sport. Loved episode 1, BTW.

As a reader of the books it didn't quite get me into the world and atmosphere yet, but it's definitely good quality (despite some not so good effects that took me out a bit).

Absolutely deserves a shot.
Watched it in English and most likely will watch it a second time in German with my dad.

Q @Qat - ignore my comment about "the last 3" ... apparently they got taken down and my channel got its first ever channel strike lol. fuck amazon

over the years, a lot of people straight up uploaded the Game of Thrones "history and lore" videos from the blue-rays, with no issues. so i did the same for the wheel of time videos two nights ago

the system automatically runs a copyright check and no issue. but to be careful, i let the videos sit in private overnight, and still no issue. so i published them yesterday. and wake up today to find a copyright strike (means nothing. expires in 90 days. if i get 2 more in the mean time, channel is deleted)

pretty annoying though that someone from amazon would manually flag it as a copyright strike instead of just uploading the videos to the system so that the system can run a copyright check BEFORE we publish content.

Already saw em, but that's dumb. It's basically an ad for em.

exactly. its free marketing. the wild part is that they have the options:
-- flag for copyright, let it stay up, and Amazon collects youtube ad revenue on it
- flag for copyright and block anyone from seeing it
- flag for copyright and have youtube give me 1st of 3 strikes in a 90 days period

and they chose the latter. thats literally never happened to me from HBO, Netflix, or movie studios. not a single time. but first time i cover an Amazon show, bam. what douches lol

Watching the third episode now. Missus is a big fan of the books. I read the first one while bedridden a couple of years ago.

Mixed opinions so far. Lots to like, but not impressed with some of the casting /writing.

* All the main 4 except Matt are bland. All the actors do OK jobs, but they might not have been the best casting. Matt is the only interesting one.

* Eugene isn't nearly hot enough.

* Perrin isn't nearly huge and hulking enough.

* Matt, the actor is doing his best with what he's given to say. But he's being too much of a sappy mopey bitch right now, whining about his sisters.

* Morraine is good, she might be a little bit too old looking but the actress really has the gravitas and intensity needed. She acts circles around Rand, Egwene and Perrin. And her magic looks badass on screen.

* Lan, the actor is doing fine but he's too young-looking. He should be older and grizzled.

* Nynaeve is fucking annoying.

Finding the wokeness immersion-breaking, too. Emond's Field is supposed to be a random nothing village in the middle of nowhere, but it looks like a major international trade hub. Every table at the inn looks like a UN General Assembly meeting. I don't give a shit if everyone in the village is black or whatever, but little peasant villages in rural India or China or Africa or Siberia aren't multicultural mixing pots.

And of course it's annoying that every single woman on screen, bar none, is secretly a badass, fearless natural sword /knife fighter more than capable of holding her own against or beating down and killing any male (or monster, a couple of times). But that's to be expected these days, pretty much.

The show looks damned good aside from a couple of ropey special effects and obvious tiny sets each episode, too. Which is good.

Couple things:

If anything, Perrin should be smaller.
In the books Rand is by far the tallest dude, here Perrin is taller and bigger than him. You want him even bigger? Nah.

Obviously Mat and Perrin are a bit different here than in the books, like many chars probably. Blandness to a point I kinda agree, but we will see what's to come, give it time.
Egwene is hot enough imo. Tho I am eager to see Min and Faile.
Nynaeve was always annoying, so it fits. Moraine's and Lan's casting is good imo.

I haven't even noticed the races of the rabble in the inns. And even if, who cares? So Rand isn't _that_ different for looking special. Why not.

Women are badass in this universe. Sure they hump on it a lil but this hardly differs from the books, where women are usually the ones with the power and stronger minds. Better not expect anything different if the source material is more or less matriarchal.

I was waiting for someone to complain about the different ethnicities being unrealistic in a show where people literally use magic to mess with the pattern that creates the fabric of time.

I just didn’t think it would be you, John Lee Pettimore @John Lee Pettimore

Perrin should be shorter but he should also be like a human refrigerator. I agree Rand is too short but there aren’t a lot of 6’6” actors out there.
