I thought that by taking what was (in my opinion) a very reasonable position, and then taking it to an extreme in order to ridicule it, he was effectively attacking a "straw man"?
What's always fucked my brain is that John Adams and John Quincy Adams (#2 and #6) didn't own slaves.True

It's so easy to think of all these dudes as just a product of their times. Buuutttttt there are two presidents right off the bat that refused to own slaves, were against slavery, and plainly stated we wouldn't be free until all the slaves were free. Sooooo wtf the rest of y'all?
I wonder what people thought of those two day to day. Was being slave owning or against it just as casual as having an opinion on tax policy? Or was it more visceral like political party, but still accepted that people are on both sides? Or was it like abortion where people secretly/publicly hated the opposite opinion but both might get elected?
I think it was casual. I don’t know politically as I tried to, after reading a specific book and not get caught up in the author’s opinions but stick to the facts, as he was very “socialist minded”.What's always fucked my brain is that John Adams and John Quincy Adams (#2 and #6) didn't own slaves.

Yeh I try to avoid these conversations on line since I suspect most people have already chosen their team on the topic as a wholeI'd like people to post examples of things that shouldn't be in textbooks. Each time I see somebody talking about the subject, it's usually in line with laws That are being passed. The laws seem needlessly broad about not allowing certain discussion or protecting the feel feels.
It was something John Wayne infamously said.Relax Hondo
@kneeblock is this true?lets say a gay kid is bullied and sent to the principle* for an argument with another kid.
Neither the principal, teacher, nor guidance counselor is even allowed to discuss the issue at hand. Not even to assure that the child is okay mentally
It wasn’t a coincidence I referenced HondoIt was something John Wayne infamously said.
Shows how recently things are fucked up re race relations, that kind of attitude being casually given in an interview for a major publication.

Can straight teachers talk about their relationships?Sorry, I didn't realize the thread was CRT when I wrote that
Here's better wording on that tho. Hb 1557 has broad terms such as "instruction" that effectively intimidate school systems and teachers about being sued for mentioning anything related to sexual orientation
As a result, gay staff now feel threatened to hide who they are as if being gay is something wrong
The problem is the implicit threat of law suitsCan straight teachers talk about their relationships?
Why wouldn't they mention their partners? Can straight teachers talk about their relationships?
