assault rifles were banned before in the United States. and they have been banned in other countries
so instead of comparing the prohibition of assault weapons or guns to a theoretical concept of "prohibitions," it may be more valuable to look at past and current prohibitions. the results appear to be positive in terms of deaths related to those weapons
Assault weapons ban (with associated restriction on 10+ magazines as was done last time) would probably reduce mass shooting injuries and deaths per shooting.
I'd be in favor of increased age and background checking for these items instead of banning them. But banning them will eventually make them less available via cost increases....10-15 years from now.
Suicides are probably impacted by waiting periods.
Domestic abuse turned homicides the same.
Gang violence will require handgun management and of course all the other interventions associated with economic disparities.
